Anyone Else Surprised?

So, is anyone else surprised at how well the Padres are doing? I know I am!

I have to admit, when they gave up Khalil Greene during the off season, played with the idea of trading Cy Young winner Jake Peavy, and then losing Trevor Hoffman to the Brew Crew, I kind of lost hope for the Friars. But it's not just me, even most of the sports analysts and Yahoo! Sports journalists had the Padres ranked in last place overall prior to the start of this season. They had the Washington Nationals ahead of the Friars in their rankings. I have to admit, I kind of agreed with them. I honestly thought the Padres would have a bad season. I was expecting to see the Bad News Bears take the field.

After going 2 and 2 against the Dodgers to start off the season, then sweeping the Giants, and now tainting the home openner in the new Bailout Park in New York against the Mets, I now have to say I'm dumbfounded at how well the Friars are playing. Is anyone else shell shocked, or am I alone on this? I mean, I don't want to sound premature in saying the Padres might be the Surprise Team of the season. Especially with the emaciated team we came into this season with. But, surprise surprise, the Padres are back, and they're back in full stride. They're kicking butt and they're taking names. Way to go Padres! 6 and 2, a good start!
