Around SBN: NHL Trade Rumors: Do You Make A Move For Rick Nash?

Towers: "The organizational philosophy is to win as many games as you can."

XX Sports Radio: Kevin Towers (MP3)

  • Kevin Towers' bull dogs are named Sputnik, Fiona and Arlo.
  • KT has had very limited contact with new owner Moorad
  • "The organizational philosophy is to win as many games as you can.  Mainly do it through scouting, player development and international scouting.  Hopefully, have good players in your system to fill voids when players become free agents and are too expensive to retain."
  • About Moorad's arrival: "There is no doubt in my mind that things are going to get better here"
  • "I wouldn't say we are a Moneyball organization".  KT doesn't think their organization is any different then any other.
  • Towers has known Moorad for 10 years and has a good relationship with him.
  • "A lot of people didn't think Sandy and I worked well together, but I've got a great deal of respect for Sandy.  He's a good man and I trusted him 100%"
  • "I've never had a huge ego, I've been able to work with whoever is above me"
  • Wally Joyner and Bruce Bochy weren't big believers in Sandy Alderson's philosophy.  KT believes in the chain of command and bought into the philosophy.  "I am a believer in process now and I believe in Sandy Alderson, I personally thought Sandy was good, enjoyed working for him and liked some of things he brought to the organization "
  • It's unlikely that Shawn Hill will start the season in the majors, but he could be a number 3 starter.

I'm sure hill could be a #3 starter on this team

with Beak in that spot now it makes me feel like I could crack the rotation.

Towers said in that interview ..

That “when you played the Nationals, Shawn Hill was someone you hoped to avoid.”

The Padres beat Hill both times they faced him, and me thinks that flys directly in the face this new organizational philosophy. :)

right

trying to avoid wins is not the club philosophy… more of a bad habit.
