He'd be a huge upgrade for the Padres - and cheap. Even fat and disinterested he's better than anything we have.
I wonder if Jones ($500,000), Moises Alou (currently unsigned) and Pudge Rodriguez (about to sign w/Houston for $1.5M) wouldn't have been a lot cheaper than keeping Giles and a lot better.
Alou, Jones and Hedley in the outfield and Hundley understudying Pudge, hmm!?! A year of two with these three old pros and then the vaunted farm system can send up the long-term answers.
