Padres Sign Duaner Sanchez

Corey Brock delivers the news early again. So those of you who wanted pitching, you now have pitching. Freely available, super cheap, not-sure-if-he-can-throw-hard-anymore pitching.  With the way KT operates, the more random bodies with upside he can throw against the wall, the more likely one or two of them are to stick.

If he prove that his velocity hasn't really fallen off (which is why the Mets released him), he'll be a really nice addition to the bullpen. He's never missed a ton of bats, but if he can continue to strike out 4/5 of a batter per inning he can help, although his LD rate blew up to 25% last year, which does lend some validity to the "he can't throw hard anymore" rumors.

These sort of moves are probably going to increase in number.

As teams make tough decisions on out-of-options guys, there are bound to be guys who fall through the cracks and onto our team. While it’s no way to build a whole team, it’s a great way to stock a bench and bullpen.

its a good way to decrease payroll, that’s for sure.

Actually

If Sanchez makes the team, he’d probably increase our payroll since he’d be replacing some kid who doesn’t qualify for the veteran minimum like Duaner does.

I kinda like this "throw stuff at the wall until it stick" approach.

At least it’s cheap.

On another note...

The Braves released Phil Stockman who’s had good stats the last few years but has also been slowed by injuries.
