Celebrity Sighting!

I had an optometrist appointment earlier this week and as I walked through Horton Plaza, I saw Dennis Morgigno!

He had just gotten his shoes shined by the shoe shine guy right near the Broadway Plaza thing and was saying something like, "Best shoe shine ever! Best shoe shine ever!" I thought to myself, "I bet he says the same thing about Gaslamp Ball. Best blog ever! Best blog ever!"

When we made eye contact, I gave him the good old "Crazy Dex Face" and he looked down really quickly and saw his shadow, which I guess means 6 more weeks of offseason.

I had one last week

I saw Jerry Coleman last week at a local dog park. He was there, sporting a Padres hat, with his huge German Shepherd, Gus, whose name tag was a star. We made small talk, and he apologized for Gus trying to have its way with my dog.

Yes

Also, if you do any type of “Crazy ’tec Face,” please say so.

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

Of course

Why would you even think of not blogging it?

Well

On my way to New York the other week I was in the security line with Clay Hensley. When I returned to San Diego Trevor Hoffman was on the same baggage claim as me on his return to San Diego from the Brewers Fan Fest thingy. He had Padres tags on all his bags. My family friends near Mark Grant in Alpine so I hang with him once in awhile, like the Super Bowl. I know Scott Kaplan (Scott and BR) pretty well from synagouge because he is a member at mine. I’ve sat next to/near numerous celebrities at boxing matches recently because I am able to get ringside seats from a HBO hookup. You can see Tony anytime you want at State during baseball season, also Steven Strasburg who will be a celeb soon too. Um I think that’s it for now. Oh Oh. I saw Lorenzo Neal at the Bullpen in Encinitas and Nate Keading at Beachside Bar and Grill in Encinitas.

Tony

I’m not sure if I’ve told this story or not, but late last season my parents, my wife, and I decided to take the Petco tour they offer before games. While we were waiting for the tour to start, Tony came in (it’s the media entrance) to get ready for his broadcast. Since most of the people that do these tours are out-of-towners, few people other than my family realized that it was indeed Tony the Gwynn.

I went up to him and made some small talk and he signed everything we wanted and took a picture with us. We told him we made the trip to Cooperstown, which he legitimately seemed to aprpecaite.

During the tour, Tony leaned out from the broacast booth to talk to the group as we passed directly underneath the booth. He made small-talk with the group for a little while. I think the tour guide was secretly irked but I wanted to punch him in the face and be like, “Dude, it’s Tony Gwynn. This is way better than the tour.”

In this economy...

Who has the extra cash to be getting their shoes shined. Jesus, I can barely afford good toilet paper.

I knew I should have gone into broadcast journalism!

Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball. ~Jim Murray

I built a cabinet

for Luis Castillo recently. Needless to say it wasn’t a cabinet for a Super Bowl ring.

Do you guys want mine?

Kinda skewed due to the Hollywood thing, so I’ll stay mum unless you guys insist.

In the past month or so

Gretchen Bonaduce at Legendary Bingo. She was the “celebrity guest.”
Shawn Wayans eating alone at BOA Steakhouse.
Larry Birkhead at The Key Club. Same venue where Steel Panther plays.
Angelina Jolie on the Paramount lot, surrounded by about 10 handlers.
