Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Will Never Top Michael Jordan

The economy is impacting everyone, baseball included. Teams are looking to build more cost-conscious rosters. But how? Is it doable? Are there enough talented, relatively inexpensive players to build a competitive roster for, say, $40 million, which is roughly the payroll the San Diego Padres hope to operate at in 2009?

Well, ESPN.com put four of its experts on the case.

Over a recent five-day stretch, Baseball Tonight's Steve Phillips, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney and ESPN.com's Jayson Stark and Rob Neyer drafted their own 25-man rosters.

HAHA

It’s funny seeing how these 4 interact with each other during the draft. Steve Phillips seems like the guy who we have in every league asking annoying stupid questions all the time….“so who are you drafting next?” No wonder he was such a crappy MLB GM….I bet he did the same type of stuff.

What's his hair like?

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

The hair

is nothing compared to Scan’s and I don’t think Phillips will ever make an appearance here….the guy isn’t smart enough to do something like that.

This is how it happened last time

Watch, now he’ll show up, fresh from Supercuts, to ask why you don’t think he’s smart enough.

Ohhh.....

more Steve Phillips!!!!

Day 2: Rounds 6-10

I like when he taunts the other guys saying how he drafted David Wright when he was GM of the Mets….yet now he’s drafting David Wright in fantasy baseball. How the mighty have fallen Steve Phillips….how the mighty have fallen my friend.

Day Three is even better...

Olney’s KT quote is just bonus. Phillips is borderline broke and lobbying that, after this, they compete with $200 mil budgets.

HAHA

The KT quote was great. Some other gems include…..
-Phillips saying “Did I ever mention that I was GM when he signed?” when Buster drafted Reyes. Yeah yeah we all know you were once a GM Steve…you’ve made note of it in all 3 articles now.
-Stark asking Phillips if he was going to draft Rob Stratton (Mets #1 pick in ‘96 who never made the majors) for nostalgia’s sake.
-When Phillips says “It’s actually bringing back memories from Mets days for her (his wife).” What is it bringing up the fact that you had an multiple affairs while you were the GM and were even sued for sexual harassment in ’98?
