Are you going to Spring Training?

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to go to Spring Training again this year.  So many of our readers travel to Peoria to Spring Training but only a few give us any kind of update.  Where are the pictures?  The videos?  The celebrity sightings?

That's all gonna change this year, right?  I want to see dozens of Fan Posts chronicling your Spring Training adventures.

Let's use the comments section to share Spring Training tips.  You can also start coming up with excuses as to why you never share any stories with the Gaslamp Ball too.

Here's my posts from last year when I went to Spring Training for the first time ever.  Let's reminisce shall we.

I wanna go

But I don’t know how I’m going to do it.

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

Regretfully, yes

I am going to Spring Training.

I have a streak of about 6 years in a row now, and I’ve probably only missed about 4 years since they moved to Peoria. If you haven’t been, I highly recommend it. It’s a really relaxing setting to take in a game and an overnight road trip doesn’t cost too much.

But this was going to be the year I really stick it to the Padres because I’m pissed off at them. I was planning on NOT going and I was damn happy about it.

However, with this being the first year with the Dodgers in town my fiance’s dad was excited and planned a road trip last weekend which we’re now a part of. We’ll be seeing a padres vs dodgers game at the end of March.

So, yes I’m going. I voted on keeping it a secret, but I’m not good at keeping secrets so now everyone knows. Oh and don’t worry, the gf and future wife is a converted fan of the Friars.

Thinking about going March 21st and 22nd.

I enjoyed the baseball, but found the Phoenix area, overall, to be extremely boring. Tempe was the one bright spot for me. I went there with a couple of friends and had a really good time. We met quite a few fans of different teams who were partaking in libations at the local bars. We didn’t have a problem with anyone, but then again, the Dodgers weren’t there last year.

I go with a big group

Usually the first weekend of March. We have Cubs, Angels, Giants and, yes, even Dodgers fans. So I end up going to a variety of parks. As a concession to the other fans I usually either get there a day early or leave a day late and see the Padres on that day and then the rest of the weekend involves other games. This year I’m seeing the Padres on my first day there and it will be in Surprise (against the Rangers) instead of going to Peoria. I’m hoping my crew will be up for a quick visit to the Peoria practice fields that Friday before heading off to Mesa for a 1 pm start.

Last year I got autographs from Kouz, Hoffy and Greene to go with my Peavy and Giles from the year before. All of which I got at the practice fields, not the actual stadium. There was a point where I thought all 5 wouldn’t be Padres in 2009 and it made me very sad to see them displayed. 3 out of 5 for 2009 ain’t bad. I believe I’ve related some advice about going to Peoria, but I guess I never shared pictures. I’m not usually the one taking them, so that’s probably my excuse.

Surprise this year

This will be my 10th year heading to AZ for sprint training. Been to Peoria 9 times before, but this year friends in Surprise have asked that we give Surprise Stadium a try. We are going to see the Padres and Rangers on the 15th. I be sure to send in an update with some photos.
