"will be baseball decisions and not financial decisions."

cool we need a 2B and a starting pitcher.

Somehow I doubt this means we will be trading for Uggla and or Halladay.

"He wasn’t managing people or overseeing the draft."

which is of course why you were let go …. 14 years of overseeing the draft … a draft that produced one player.

Jake Peavy.

Ummm...?
Interesting Comment ..

I felt this system was underrated entering 2009, and things are really looking up here. They’ve got a good mixture of polished bats and upside arms, and adding additional athletic upside in the ‘09 draft just makes things even better. Although they went with more athleticism at the top (Tate, Williams, Sampson) this year, they continued to draft polished college guys in the latter rounds, and I think this strategy will help them. It should also be noted that even the "skill" drafts before 2009 included good athletes like Darnell, Forsythe, Cumberland, Pelzer, and Zawadski. This was never a “tools don’t matter” organization, no matter what people said.

A direct quote from Sickels there.

I stand corrected.

12 years of overseeing the draft .. then, rightfully so, his duties were stripped of him, and given to people who knew what they were doing.

So it's all his fault?

I find it fascinating that the fat prick that raped our franchise because he couldn’t keep his dick in his pants gets a free pass on our draft failures when he was the one that refused put any significant amount of money towards the draft.

It’s also pretty amazing to me that KT was such a bumbling idiot at evaluating high school and collegiate talent – but seemed to do so well evaluating major league talent in the trade market.

Interesting.

That second paragraph

Might actually be accurate.

why are we jerking around with Correia?

Sign him to a 2 year/10mill deal with a club option and be happy you have a #2/#3 pitcher at 5 million.

Hoyer sees value in a backup catcher yet lets Blanco leave? i think that if Bell leaves he will be bringing back a reserve catcher along with the CF’er.

After watching that Hoyer video and the Hotstove one

I get the feeling (especially after watching the Hotstove video) that the rumors we see right with Adrian, Bell, Correia and to a lesser extent Kouz might be the other teams trying to put pressure on the first time GM. They know the Padres can’t have the biggest payroll and might want to move some guys so they are getting the word out that Hoyer should be moving this guy or non-tendering that guy and seeing if he’s his own man or if he will make a move because he thinks that’s what’s expected of him. I think Hoyer is doing the smart thing and taking time to evaluate things and not making any rash decisions and he’s definitely doing a better job at spin control than Alderson or KT ever did (especially compared to the Hoffman and Peavy situations last year and the Bradley and Cameron ones before that).

Agreed here

I get the feeling other teams are doing a lot more talking to see what the new situation is.
