insidethepadres: The Murph
Petco Park is a gem. The Murph, though, is still a special place. I'd like to see the Padres play a game or two in The Murph every year. Slash prices for food and drinks, give away Tony Gwynn throwback jerseys and fill the place up with 60,000. Maybe it's not practical. -

I guess the one thing you have to do is always believe in your ability and know that if you keep putting in the time and working hard things will turn around for you. -

Wow
I was actually hoping for an ElfYourself with Moorad, Garfinkel & Hoyer as dancing elves for the Holiday Greeting but I guess I’ll settle for that garbage.

I LOVE!
"I'm a Padre at heart. Always gonna root for the Padres. Twenty-five years [with this organization], how can't you? Next year I'm gonna be rooting like a son-of-a-gun for these guys and for Blackie ... I'm gonna be rooting for the next general manager here, rooting for the city, the fans, everybody. I think a lot of San Diego." -Kevin Towers

To the best of my knowledge
The Q (there is no Murph, sorry) is setup for football only and can’t convert to a baseball field. The infield is gone, the bleachers don’t rotate and they probably don’t have the outfield walls anymore (although they could go back to the high walls, but people would complain about hitting dingers more than Klesko and Nevin ever did).

Isn't it still Jack Murphy Field?
I had the same idea back in 2006. It was genius back then, that’s what I remember about it.

Game 3 of the '98 pennant
had the loudest crowd you could ever imagine. It was one of the absolute best San Diego sports moments. The spontaneous welcoming of the Chargers after beating the Steelers in the ‘94 AFC championship has to be the Murph’s rowdiest moment. I was 12 years old and a few wickedly drunk nuts almost fall on top of me (they were climbing the fence to get on top of the box seats), and I also witnessed women pissing in the Men’s room’s sink. It was a coming of age experience. There must have been 100,000 people there. I was a vendor at the Murph from ‘97-’99 and really do miss the Padres games there.

That wasn't a sink
That trough was the urinal. At least you were washing your hands with something warm.
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

there was a system to it
the dudes didn’t wash their hands and the ladies used the sinks because they could get a grip on the edges. It was very moving to see so many San Diegans working together.

Yep, those were cool moments
I was at the stadium when we welcomed the team back. Amazingly unreal. People climbed on the roof of the loge level because it was too packed in the seats (this was before the stadium expansion, club level renovation, etc).

it would be cool
to play the last spring training game there instead of at petco. the murph was awesome, especially for tailgating.

Agree and Dissagree about the Murph
Murph was the best place ever. Grew up watching games there, going three hours early for autographs, and watching the Padres get destroyed for the most part. Went to a couple of those ‘98 playoff games and that was the best I’ve ever seen it. My dad used to tell me stories of bringing tubs of liquor in and smoking weed in the bleachers when all but a few thousand fans would go to the games, sounds like some great times. I would love to go to a Padre game at the Murph and I would be down in a heartbeat.
With that being said, earlier this year I went to a Lakers preseason game at the Forum. I never got to go to the real deal but the place was an absolute dump, there was no mystique or Magic. Everyone that went said it was a huge let down and didn’t do the place justice.
I really have some great memories at the old park and would hate for them to get ruined by a half assed preseason game. Let’s all enjoy our nice new state of the art Petco Park. I can’t wait to play some meaningful games there (not talking getting the crap beaten out of us my the Cards).

I suggest bashing your head against light post
Or washing your face with one of those urinal troughs rather than listen to his show. It will save you a lot of aggravation. Personally, I will listen to his show because I find it better to yell about how wrong he is than to get road rage at other drivers while sitting in traffic.
