At first I liked this
But then I found out that his defense doesn’t quite play in CF (despite the fact that teams keeping trying to put him there). Spring training filler and a bench bat and spot starter for Portland.

When I heard it
they said he’d be competing for a bench job.
Time to see what kind of dumpster diving Hoyer can do.
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔
Uncommon Sportsman :: Absurdity in play
Why?
He’s already a good hitter. I don’t think there’s much more room to improve. It’s his future role anyway, might as well get him started.

Give him another year under team control
Also in AAA he will see some major league pitching and if someone goes down in the Padre’s OF he will still have his swing when he is called up.
I don't like
Keeping guys under team control just for the sake of doing so. If he’s ready to contribute as a 5th OF/PH and he’s better than Denorfia, then he should be up. I don’t worry about his swing too much, how much practice do you need to tap a ball and get an infield hit. With his defense, I don’t really want him starting in the Padres OF anyway, plus if he’s the 5th OF, it would take 2 guys going down anyway.
