Definitely a good deal, provided Correia approaches his 2009 performance.
Last year he put up 2.4 WAR, worth $10.9 mill. Half that would be worth $3.5mill, so good job.

Very nice.
Wish there could have been some kind of option but nice indeed.

Brock reported
that neither side wanted an option.

So our rotation looks like
1. CY
2. Latos
3. Correia
4. Richard/Stauffer
5. Gallagher/LeBlanc/Stauffer/Ramos/Poreda/etc?

Jed said he was looking into signing a vet starter

I can't wait to see Latos pitch again
But having a nice vet to go in one of the top 3 spots to let Latos take the #4 spot could be very good. I’d rather see him thrive at the end of the rotation than feel immediate pressure @ the top. but hey, what do i know
Pass on a vet starter
It costs too much, and our young pitchers did VERY well last year. I think the Padres should throw out their half dozen young starters and see what sticks.
It is hard to see what more time in the minors will do to help some of them. Others could use more time, but considering the (relative) glut of young pitchers we have, let’s try them out and see what they can do over the course of a season. If 2010 is about building for 2011, then that is what the Padres should do.

i just like this
Because there were like a hundred pundits ready to talk s*** about the padres if they nontendered kc. Good job saving face and I’m sure he’ll do okay for us.

I imagine
he’ll put up something between 1 and 2 WAR. Which is great value for $3.5m.

kind of
it depends on what 1 or 2 war means to the team. If it gets them contending for a playoff spot then it was really worth it. If they are still a cellar dweller then i’d rather see the money go to something that will have an impact past 2010. That being said, you could still trade kc at some point. And maybe having a reliable vet starter helps others develop. Maybe.

At the end of the article
on MLB.com there is something said about non-tendering Quezada an Worrel. What does this mean? Are they still with the team?

Worrel.
If that’s true, it makes me laugh. He was supposed to be the main piece of the Khalil trade.

Might not be totally giving up on him...
Per Rotoworld:
The Padres didn’t feel like keeping Worrell on the 40-man roster as he continued his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The team will try to re-sign him to a minor league contract. He should be ready to contend for a bullpen spot in spring training.

when i saw them nontender him
I assumed it was because they didn’t want damaged goods on 40 man and would try to coax him into a minor league deal and help him rehab.

I love it too!!
Even though he might have had a career year, I think he can still produce enough to be a league avg #3 pitcher and possible trade bait come summer time when we might want to interject a guy like Poreda into the rotation.

I'm not sold on Ellsbury...
He’s like Otis Nixon or Juan Pierre — fast, but no power, just average with a bat. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing; I just don’t think that’s what we need in return for Adrian. Especially since he’s arbitration eligible next year (I think).

Well it depends
If it comes with bard, Anderson and westmoreland/Kelly then I could dig it

that's one rumor
The other is that signing Lackey allows them to trade Beckett and use him to get Adrian in a 3 team deal.
