Friar John's Blog: Padres claim a pitcher from Orioles
The Padres added a pitcher Wednesday by claiming right-hander Radhames Liz on waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. -
Trading Gonzalez now would be the wrong call - Columnists - SignOnSanDiego.com
"Adrian's a great player," Padres' General Manager Jed Hoyer said yesterday afternoon. "He fits the San Diego Padres incredibly well. From a baseball standpoint, he sits in the middle of the lineup. He's one of the best run-producers in baseball. He fits our payroll structure very well. "We have Adrian under contract for two years. To me, that's sort of where the conversation begins and ends. He's a Padre for the next two years, period." -

Masur's Musings: Hello from our 49th State...
I'm still not completely convinced that Adrian will be dealt. It's sometimes a good idea, even for later in the season, to find out what teams are willing to offer at this point, and have that in mind when the trade deadline comes in July. I'll keep an eye on things and let you know what I hear. -
Unfinished Business: Random Padres Thoughts...
Of course, there's the trade rumors about Adrian, but I honestly don't think that the Padres are going to trade him this offseason. I mean, what's the point? He's playing for us at a riduculously low price, and is Kyle Blanks really ready to play first full time in the majors? -

2nd best Orioles prospect after Wieters
in 2008, according to Baseball America.
Can’t wait to see a baseball player with “LIZ” on the back of their jersey.

Suck it Red Sox fans!!
Now they can stop pretending that we’re an extension of their farm system, developing talent for them to steal.

The Red Sox farm system is a LOT better be than a lot of mid-market teams
Look at the roster: We have developed Dustin Pedroia, Papelbon, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Lester and now Bard and Buchholz. not to mention former prospect Hanley Ramirez.
For this year our farm is considered again very deep: Baseball Prospectus can confirm that
Adam Foster of Project Prospects did that too:
Top 15 1B prospects: 9th – Rizzo, 12th – Anderson
Top 15 SS Prospects: 4th – Iglesias, 14th – Navarro, 15th – Renfroe
Top 15 CF Prospects: 4th – Westmoreland, 6th – Lin, 8th – Kalish
Top 15 COF Prospects: 11th – Reddick
Top Pitching Prospects: 14th – Tazawa, 19th – Kelly , 27th – Pimente.
Please try to make some documented view: We are not the Yankees, who consider the majors are their farm system, the biggest contract Epstein have handled was to Drew and it was a 70 millions over 5 years.

I didn't say the Red Sox didn't have a good farm system.
I was merely reacting to how many Red Sox fans I’ve seen that pretend that Adrian is just waiting to go to Boston and can be had without giving up anything good. They’ve continued to ignore the fact that Padres have no reason to trade him, and can easily afford the rest of his contract and then some if possible. Now that Hoyer has said that himself, I just hope they put away their pipes and stop dreaming.

Like I said above, when you make a statement please back it with facts (you know: numbers, quotes...)
Here’s some numbers for you:
Since 2003, the Sox have averaged $67 million less per year on payroll than the MFY. Only one team has ever spent more than $150 million on payroll. From 2004 to 2007, the Sox were the number 2 payroll in baseball. Even then, their top payroll was $143 million (2007), which was cut by $10 million the following year.
Here’s another fact: Last year the Padres ($ 73,677 million) were closer to us ($133,390 million) in both absolute and percentage salary than we were to the Yankees ($ 209,081 million).
Now I know, most of the posters here are not very stats oriented (FIP, tRA, UZR, WAR, wOBA…) but please, try to do analyze before you say anything that later will make you foolish.

Hahahaha, love the gif
No need to be rude though. I came respectfully here to correct some perceptions, I didn’t said something outrageous: We’re a big market team runned by one of the smartest FOs in baseball, look at the Mets or the Tigers (who spend more money than we do and plays in a less competitive division) but still didn’t made the playoffs.
That’s why your team’s owner hired Hoyer no?

Here's some facts and stats
I hate the Yankees 100% of the time
Here’s a formula: Red Sox = Yankees
Therefore: I hate the Red Sox 100% of the time
If you have any stats that would prove that I don’t hate the Red Sox then feel free to share them.

The Yankees have produced a lot of home grown talent
Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Pettite, Cano, Chamberlain etc
by strummer on Nov 26, 2009 1:39 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
The first 4 ones you mentionned are getting old
Since that generation, they didn’t developed anything worth being mentioned aside from Cano who BTW was an IFA where they’ve outbid all the other teams.
Chamberlain ? Hahaha I don’t consider that talent by any measure.

Cool, but nothing we need.
We’ve got the future of first base in Gonzo (and Blanks, and God forbid, Allan Dykstra).
Short’s going to be Cabrera’s slot for a while.
Center… hm, apparently the team is pretty high on Luis Durango.
Venable and Gwynn can probably play corners. Or Gwynn can play center, with Durango in left.
We also have pitching projects coming out the wazoo, thanks to the Hairston and Peavy trades, and a couple of drafts that have yet to produce.
