wiki knows all
Players are eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft who are not on their major league organization’s forty man roster and:
- were signed at age 19 or older and have been in the organization for four years; or
- were signed at age 18 or younger and have been in the organization for five years.
If that were the case
You would see a lot more big name picks in the Rule 5 draft.

What I'm curious about
Is who are they choosing to leave exposed. I’m too lazy to look up who meets the criteria. (Knowing me though I’ll probably look it up later. Too bad DePo doesn’t blog anymore.)

Pitchers
Matt Buschmann
Nathaniel Culp
Stephen Faris
Neil Jamison
and possibly John Hudgins (he played a partial season in our organization in 2006 and partial with the Rangers org, not sure how that counts towards the 4 years)

1 other possible...
Drew Miller, he was drafted in 2005, as a draft and follow (age 19)
Also, if anyone has a subscribtion to Scout.com
MadFriars has a rundown of all the players that would be in the Rule V draft for the San Diego Padres.
Thanks Sir Wonko
I don’t see anyone there that I would miss save probably Matt Buschmann.

Baxter, Carter and Miller are guys that I would still consider prospects. And Miller is more of a super duper sleeper than a legit prospect. Baxter and Carter don’t project as regulars but could end up as bench players, but even that isn’t likely.
Buschmann is just minor league journeyman with good numbers.

I agree
I think Baxter and Carter go to NL teams looking for a cheap 4th or 5th OF, the Nationals, Pirates and possibly the Marlins (depending on what moves they make) may be a good fit.
Bucshmann will get picked up by a team looking for long relife help but I would bet he gets returned by the end of ST.
