- XX Sports Radio: Tom Garfinkel Interview (MP3)
Garfinkel likes to quote old movies. Jed Hoyer has the final say on any Gonzalez trade. The Padres won't shop Gonzalez but they will listen to offers. Garfinkel dated a girl from Nicaragua at one point. He's become a Chargers fan. "At the end of the day... autonomy... moving forward... etc." -

"largely due to factors not really about Kouzmanoff"
Well, I can think of at least one factor that IS about Kouzmanoff that merits trading him: he’s not that good.

not his fault

Corey Brock revealed on 1360 last night that KT told him toward the end of the season
that there was very little interest in Kouz from other GM’s.
Not that that should shock anyone.

That is probably why
he hasn’t been traded already. They have probably been trying to get rid of him ever since Headley was brought up.

I wouldn't expect much interest in Kouzmanoff
because he basically sucks. But so does Casey Blake, and the Dodgers gave up much-heralded prospect Carlos Santana (and Jon Meloan) for him (with Cleveland picking up most of Blake’s salary). So you never know what a dumb GM in the Colletti/Sabean mold might do. And then there’s Dayton Moore.

Yes
Can you believe they only got Casey Blake in return for a legendary guitarist?!

Blake is better
He’s bested Kouz’s career high in slugging percentage and on base percentage 5 times in his career and batting average 3 times all in the last 6 seasons (all of which were after age 30). He can also play all the corner positions. There is no question who the better player is.
