Moorad is wanting to pounce on Mexico and this is the way for it to happen.

Adrian is much more than Mexican

He also swings a pretty mean baté de beisbol while flashing a pretty sweet guante de oro. The focus is baseball, not foreign relations.

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

If nothing else

It gives the team leverage because it makes any prospective trade partner start to think that the Padres aren’t desperate to deal him. That is, unless they totally low ball him and Boggs lets that out to the media and then everyone knows the Padres have no leverage. But, that sounds like something the old FO would do, surely this new one wouldn’t do that…

As long as there is more than one team in the trade race for him

His value will stay propped up regardless of what happens in contract negotiations.
