If nothing else
It gives the team leverage because it makes any prospective trade partner start to think that the Padres aren’t desperate to deal him. That is, unless they totally low ball him and Boggs lets that out to the media and then everyone knows the Padres have no leverage. But, that sounds like something the old FO would do, surely this new one wouldn’t do that…
