It seems that

not everything is going according to “plan”…

But really, who knows what Moorad is thinking. Im taking Mr. Mexico’s advice and waiting… for a GM, and more importantly for a World Series Champonship (2011, IMO).

by jbox on Oct 7, 2009 4:01 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Question #1

Has Darren Smith confirmed any of this stuff?

by SDPads_1 on Oct 7, 2009 4:12 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hey I didn't say Keppler wasn't a candidate

Just that they hadn’t interviewed him yet.

Hoyer hasn't been interviewed

and the Padres have not asked for permission to interview him yet.

So I guess you can cross him off your list for now.

The point is you haven't seen anything anywhere about it

Nothing on ESPN or Fox Sports or SI or the Boston Globe or anywhere else for that matter.

When he interviewed in Washington it was news when they asked for permission. We knew days before he actually interviewed.

Now. Total silence. Crickets and that’s it.

That should be enough of an indicator.

Add to that the interviews with Epstein saying no interviews of Sox personnel until after the playoffs. That was in reference to Harrell and the Indians, but I would assume it applies to Hoyer as well.

My sources have been pretty accurate to date on other matters. Signings during spring training, the extent of the injury to Tate, season ticket sales. I trust they are not going to purposely steer me wrong. Time will tell.

Woah, back it up. Injury to Tate?

I’m not the most ardent follower of Gaslamp Ball, I’ll admit, so this is news to me. But this is what, the fourth or fifth high 1st-round pick to get injured in the last several years?

The hell with Towers, we need to fire the bloody training staff.

High School injury that was re injured.

IMO

They went about this the WRONG way.

My way:

First and foremost: find a guy you want more than the guy you have right now, for whatever reason. You fire your GM, he’s GONE. He aint coming back,.so you’d best have someone BETTER lined up before you let him go.

Second: see if the aforementioned GM you are jonesing for is very attainable.
(You can interview him. You can make an offer to him, etc.)

Third: fire your cuirrent GM.

Fourth: make offer and hire aforementioned GM jonesed for.

Instead, they went:

Fire current GM.
Start groping around for replacement GM and hope he is better and attainable.

There is 12 FRIGGIN candidates on the list at the top!

This is ______ing bull______! A team must have a GM and they are groping around!!!

Actually

I think they had his replacement lined up before they told KT about 3 weeks ago. They don’t want to release his name until after the World Series.

Unwanted groping is never cool, even with a sure GM in place.

I think you are correct

It makes much more sense that they already had someone in mind BEFORE they fired Towers.

There are people in the media who are saying that the Padres are currently waiting on Selig’s approval to sign the new GM. Those sources include ESPN Insider and Heyman.

IF that is true it means they are from the Diamondbacks organization.

This would point to that arguement

PADRES: Club to resume search for a GM

A Padres front office source speculated that hiring Woodfork -- a Harvard graduate who was hired by Moorad in 2005 and previously worked as the director of baseball operations for the Boston Red Sox -- wouldn’t necessarily constitute raiding the Diamondbacks because it doesn’t involve current GM Josh Byrnes.

Hasn't it been said a bunch of times

that it won’t be someone from Arizona?

Greg Maddux for manager.

The article is saying

that it wouldn’t be raiding Arizona… from a certain point of view.

How seriously will the San Diego Padres consider Red Sox assistant general managers Jed Hoyer and Ben Cherington for their vacant GM post? According to one baseball official: "Very seriously.’’

Kim Ng would certainly be an interesting choice.
