Tony Gwynn is a mutant

First, allow me to illustrate what nomal human beings look like:

Adrian Gonzalez -- .244 average at Petco, .306 on the road (his home run splits are 12-28)

Everybody's favorite Rule 5 pick -- .230, .276 (his stolen base splits are 5-20)

Chase Headley -- .208, .305

Will Venable -- .215, .299

Kyle Blanks -- .216, .288

Kevin Kouzmanoff -- .220, .287

David Eckstein -- .232, .286

Nick Hundley -- .236, .241

Have you noticed the reality? Nobody born on this planet hits better at Petco than they do everywhere else, though Nick Hundley sucks almost as much everywhere else as he does at Petco. But we'll forgive him since he's a pigeon-toed catcher.

So how do you explain Tony Gwynn hitting .279 at Petco and .261 on the road?

Perhaps this is why the Padres front office, and by that, I mean the guy who got fired, is so high on the obese Tony's son.

I just learned to like Skinny Tony a whole lot more.

I had no idea everyone was so terrible at Petco.

this is something I don't really understand

Take Petco and Coors for example. How can really thick or really thin air so dramatically affect a hitters average? When it comes to home runs I can understand, but what about doubles down the line and singles up the middle? What is it that makes this happen less often at Petco than at Coors? I don’t understand how the air can affect that. Maybe I’m missing something, I don’t know.

DODGERS, RED SOX, YANKEES, BRONCOS, PATRIOTS and RAIDERS all suck. Especially the Dodgers.

there is a theory

that since, the air is so heavy and fly balls are usually outs, the pitchers attack the hitters earlier and throw more breaking pitches when behind. Since the biggest fear is hanging a breaking ball..pitchers don’t have to fear that as much.

I think Friar Forecast broke it down a few seasons ago.

so

it’s really just that the pitchers change their approach. Got it, thanks.

If that were true

Then Petco wouldn’t suppress triples as much as it does.

Wisdom can not be cultivated through ignorance of information.
