"Get on board early," Black said, alluding to, what he feels, is a crop of up-and-coming players.

"I would tell those fans that we're going to play good baseball. We're going to play hard. We're going to have exciting young players..." -Bud Black

Moorad, Hoyer

Listen up. If you trade Adrian the fan backlash will be immense. Personally I and many people I know will be down right furious.
For years now the one thing that Pads fans have always wanted was a big bat in the middle of the lineup. We not only have one but he is a young, economical hometown slugger with more ties to SD than you or any other breakfast loving, Friar name hating, walk into my town and tell me what kind of town we are front office jack arses.
If he is traded to Boston the conspiracy theories of an inside job will haunt this front office and team for years to come.

Whew, I’ve had that pent up for a while now. Yet somehow I’m still po’d.

Gonzalez is only economical for two more years, when is present contract expires. It seems unlikely the Padres would be able to afford Gonzalez then. Why not trade him now, when he is at his most valuable (in part because he IS under contract for two more years at a very low salary), rather than lose him for nothing in two years?

The payroll is projected to go up

and if they are smart with the rest of the money resigning him will be easy
plus even if we do lose him to free agency we will at least get a draft pick lol

Let's suppose they do increase payroll

to $75 million. Let’s further suppose that Gonzalez’ contract would be $15 million a year (which, if anything, is on the low side of what he’ll likely get). That would mean that Gonzalez would be making 20% of the team’s total payroll. That’s an awful lot to tie up in one player.

Mr. Evans Clinchy shows just how much he knows

“With the San Diego Padres unable to even sniff the playoffs over the past three seasons…”
I wonder if he cant count or just isn’t very good at his job.
I stopped reading after that

Has anyone tossed the idea around of

Extending his contract now so that, while he will make more money in 2011 and 2012, at least it won’t be what he could conceivably be getting? Then you would have more flexibility and not feel burdened to trade him right away. Look, I’m not saying he couldn’t bring in productive prospects, but I think we should be playing to win…not just ‘rebuild.’ Mr. Hoyer can rebuild through the draft and small pieces here and there…don’t act like 10 million to Gonzalez is going to make or break all our problems.

All I’m saying is…I’m not trading a big diamond for five little ones, just because.

Fact of the matter is

That no matter how much insight we have into the Sux farm system we really won’t know what we’ve actually gotten in return for years to come. The little “diamonds” that we get could actually turn out to be nothing more than zyrconium.

As the saying goes, a bird in the hand….

Apparently one game playoffs

are equal to “not even sniffing the playoffs” in douche-tastic Boston.

With the San Diego Padres unable to even sniff the playoffs over the past three seasons, it’s time for the club to start thinking about taking serious steps toward a trade of star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

Mike Hazen declined assistant GM job

According to Peter Gammons, Hazen declined an assistant GM job with the Padres and will remain with the Red Sox. Makes you wonder why he even bothered to interview for the job.

Haven't you ever applied for a job,

and then during the interview process, realized that it is not a company you want to work for?
Maybe he noticed a certain amount of dysfunction or BS during the interviews.
