2009 This Year In Baseball Awards
MLB has opened up voting for the 2009 This Year in Baseball Awards. Usually we can expect to see very few or no Padres on these award lists, but this year there are a few.

Padres were nominated under:
Closer- Heath Bell
Setup Man- Luke Gregerson
Oddity- PetCo Bees
One thing about this list though really pissed me off. They have one category of Defensive Player of the Year. Left off of that list was one Kevin Kouzmanoff.
Now I am not a huge Kevin Kouzmanoff fan, but to leave him off that list is just laughable. A year when the Hall of Fame came for his glove due to his record defensive performance at third base and the guy can't even make a list of best Defensive Players of the Year.
His fielding % was as good as or better than four of the other nominees. Not to mention the fewest errors in MLB history at 3B. Three errors all season long!
Hopefully the stadium can win an award for being odd.

How freaking great would it be if we could get at least one of these awards?
I’m so happy to see Luke on there. And I agree, the lack of Kouz is extremely disappointing (although not that surprising to be honest). And the Luis Castillo error is a lame “oddity.” Come on, how is that more odd than bees?
"I'm a Padre at heart. Always gonna root for the Padres. Twenty-five years [with this organization], how can't you? Next year I'm gonna be rooting like a son-of-a-gun for these guys and for Blackie ... I'm gonna be rooting for the next general manager here, rooting for the city, the fans, everybody. I think a lot of San Diego." -Kevin Towers

I clicked and clicked for Luke and our other nominees yesterday.
Nice to see Luke get some recognition.

Kouzmanoff
is not a great defensive player. If he is above average, it is just barely above average.

I would disagree
He set an NL single-season record for third basemen with a .990 fielding percentage, committing three errors in 309 total chances.
I think when you set a defensive record like that you deserve to be considered for a 2009 defensive player of the year award.
This isn’t a career award, it is a 2009 award and I would say his defensive performance qualifies him to at least be nominated.
