This article poses a serious question...
Do we trade now and stock the farm or hold onto what we’ve got and make a run in the near future?
I would hate to see Adrian go, especially for unproven talent. Then again I’m convinced we will win it all in 2011, so there’s no way we make this trade IMO.
"Get on board early," Black said, alluding to, what he feels, is a crop of up-and-coming players.

I'm convinced that if we get rid of Adrian
we will inevitably be the Oakland A’s forever. There’s nothing wrong with keeping talent. Imagine what St. Louis would be without Pujols, Philly without Howard, Minnesota without Mauer and Morneau. We need the face of our franchise and should build around him. He’s deserving of a raise, no doubt, but I think he’s willing to take the hometown discount.
Besides, if Aid is gone, who’s the face of the franchise? Chris Gwynn’s nephew?!

I don't want to see Adrian go but
the only way I could swallow such a trade is if we got paid big time for it. I’ve said it before on other boards; and apparently alot of Red Soxs fans cannot comprehend that we wouldn’t just want to give up our best player for scraps. In order to acquire Gonzalez the Sox would have to offer 4-5 players minimum and probably include at least one, if not two, of their untouchables. And if they don’t, well, then the Red Sox don’t have to acquire Gzonalez.
The Padres are at least now in a better position then they were with Peavy last year – there’s no immediate need to trade him and no belief that due to a lack of funds we’d be willing to trade him for nothing. But by the same token Hoyer needs to be especially tough on the Sox – if there’s even a hint of impropriety or that he traded AGone for a fraction of what he’s worth, then PAdre fans will go ape****.

Well if Adrian goes to the Red Sox
and Hoyer comes here, I’m always gonna suspect an inside job.
If there were ever a time for a gentlemen’s agreement… you keep your dirty red sox mitts off our Adrian.
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

Hoyer knows the Socks talent
and we could rape their farm system in exchange for Adrian. Especially if they Yankees win the WS and Boston fans become restless for a blockbuster trade no matter the cost.
But I’m with you, I’ll always be suspicious if this happens.

I don't think Hoyer would help out his old club "just because".
That would hurt both his own public image and his relationship with Moorad. I have to think he’s more concerned about making his own name and building his own team rather than helping his old one. And to make a name for himself, that’ll mean taking the Padres to a World Series, not helping the Red Sox get another one.
I still think this move won’t happen because it’s not necessary. It would only happen if the Red Sox grossly overpaid for Adrian, and I can’t see them doing that.
We're boned.
