Vasquez, who was claimed off waivers by Boston from Detroit on October 28, went 12-12 with a 4.81 ERA (85 ER/159.0 IP), 115 strikeouts and 37 walks in 27 starts for the Tigers Triple-A Toledo affiliate in 2008. The 26-year-old right-hander held opponents to a .283 average (179-for-633) while tying for the International League lead with two shutouts.

I saw that.
That’s really sad. He and Clay Kirby were actually pretty good pitchers who had the misfortune
of being on a bad expansion team. Despite the poor W-L records, they both had years
with solid ERA numbers in the early 1970s.
