Peavy will risk injury to pitch on a competitive team one last time

Peavy will throw for Team USA

Peavy pitched in the World Baseball Classic in 2006 totally f'd up his elbow and had a terrible season, I seem to remember that he didn't want to take that risk again.

Suddenly he doesn't give a sh*t, so he's going to go ahead and risk it.  Sweet.

if i cared to watch the wbc...

i would be happy to have peavy on the home team… who knows, maybe this will give me a reason to watch…. i wonder if this will change the cubs perspective on trading for him – i keep hearing/reading “experts” say trade talks will be rekindled before spring training.

mission accomplished.

Wouldnt this make the cubs

less likely to want him?

What to do, with Larry Hughe?

I expected this

Only the media/internets were saying that Jake wouldn’t pitch in the WBC. I recall him being asked about it before and he said he’d love to do it again, but he’d be more cautious next time.

Peavy to WBC ???

There is really only one reason he would talk about doing this…..

To put MORE pressure on Pads to trade him to the Cubs. If he were traded to the Cubs, he wouldn’t be going. And if he isn’t traded to the Cubs, what’s one more below average year among so many? It’s not like the Padres will be sublime in 2009! And if he’s injured….what’s not to like about being paid to rehab while living in Southern California???

I guess

It all depends on who cares about the WBC, and who doesn’t. I love it personally, and I already got tickets to some of the first round games in Toronto. Lots of players had the hangover post-WBC, but at least in terms of world bragging rights, Peavy pitched well throughout, and not as horrific as Dontrelle Willis and Al Leiter did.

And I thought 2006 was the year that Peavy had vision problems which led to his abysmal 4-10 start, and when he corrected it, went 7-4? Didn’t realize that arm-troubles were involved for him that year too.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Yeah I think everybody enjoys the WBC to some extent

but when it comes at the expense of the regular season, you learn to hate it.

I don't recall vision problems with Peavy

He did have elbow tendinitis that he had to manage in 2006. Something most pitchers would prefer not to deal with. I’m not convinced that this wouldn’t have happened anyway. Pitches are limited in the WBC, but that doesn’t mean someone can’t still get hurt.

I like the WBC because I like rooting for America. And baseball is supposed to be an American game so I’d like to get our best players out there to defend our game. With a bunch of guys declining to play (I’m looking at you CC and Lincecum), I think it’s awesome that Jake has stepped up to help the American cause.

But that must've cleared up before the season

I don’t recall that coming up again and obviously the eyes were better before he starting pwning in the WBC.
