Reports: Trevor Hoffman to the Brewers
***** DEVELOPING *****
Well, the Brewers have apparently done it again. First they steal the son of The Gwynn and now Buster Olney is reporting that they've signed our Hall of Famer. More as it develops.
[UPDATE] Here's the ESPN link, but no details on the deal just yet.
[UPDATE] Hoffman, Brewers agree to deal
[UPDATE] Ken Rosenthal breaks the news. Hoffman signs for $6m with $1.5m in performance incentives.

good song
don’t think this is a good situation though. At least it’s better than Trevor going to the Dodgers

This is a bummer
but I’m not actually that sad about it. I kinda resigned myself to thinking he was gone after the whole debauchle earlier this season. I’ll miss him and I can’t wait until he retires, so that I can see him get inducted into Cooperstown.
All that said, Trevor is in for a rude awakening. I don’t really think he realized how much Petco saved his ass the past few years. Miller Park favors hitters, and the longball especially, which is going to be problematic for Trevor.
I’m willing to bet that Trevor is no longer their closer as of the ASB. I mean no disrespect toward the guy, but he’s gonna get torched in a hitter’s park.

OK I'm done rejoicing and now I'll comment
I couldn’t agree more Phantom. I remember watching him last year at Petco and I don’t know how many times he gave up warning track outs that would have been homers anywhere else. Plus like someone said before if he gets rocked in San Diego then the fans are more forgiving since he’s been here so long. If he gets rocked in Milwaukee the fans won’t be so kind. I wouldn’t doubt if he lost his job by the ASB as well.

They did pay Gagne more than Trevor
And he lost his job.

I'm going to really miss Trevor time
but hey at least he’s not going to the dodgers.

I can get behind this only because he's not going to the Dodgers
But I must point out that the Brewers aren’t exactly stealing him. If you remove your car stereo, put it in a box with the speakers and subwoofer, mark the box “Expensive Stereo Equipment”, then leave the box on top of your car for a week, chances are, it’s gonna disappear.

Perhaps more accurately
If you take an expensive stereo, let it sit out in the sun for a few years until it warps, buy a new car, try to shove the old stereo into the car even when it wasn’t designed for that car, duct tape it to the dashboard anyway, shove a Hells Bells cassette single into it and hit Play >> Repeat, then drive the car off a cliff while getting a divorce and eventually having the car freighted to Milwaukee, um…wait. I forgot where I was going with this.
Bye, Trevor. To paraphrase Ben Franklin, fish, visitors, and closers expire eventually. Don’t get run over by a bratwurst.

Does this mean
Taco Bell is our Closer? Or do you think he will have to “win” the job in ST?
I dont think anyone else is even worthy of competing for the closer’s job except for Mike Adams. Who is recovering from surgery.
No more Trevor Time. Le sigh.

That reminded me
Last year, every time the ninth inning came around, my 6 year old son (5 then) would say "Does that mean its Trevor Time?".
Most of the time it wasn’t, so I’d have to try to explain to him why it wasn’t a save situation =)
Somehow, I imagine it will be harder to explain to him now why its not Trevor Time next time we watch a game together.
Adios Cambio. You will be missed. Thanx for everything.

I just saw
a one year, $6million deal mentioned on ESPN

I'm relieved
No offense to Trevor, but it just wouldn’t be right seeing him wearing Dodger Blue. It would almost be as deplorable as seeing Fernando Valenzuela in a Padres uniform…
Paul Lo Duca is MLB's Pablo Escobar..

Totally overpaid
I’m sorry, I love the guy, but the Brewers are insane:
Tom Haudricourt says Hoffman gets $6MM in ’09 with $1.5MM in incentives, plus the 2010 club option.
That’s way too much money for Hoffy at this point in his career. It’s no disrespect at all. That’s just ludicrous.

They do have a very bad recent history as far as closers are concerned.
I hear Doug Melvin spent $5000 for a closer on his screen door, and it only shuts completely half the time. The door keeps getting blown wide open by the wind.

ahhh i found it
“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.”

Last year
They introduced Heath with a scene from “300” and I think a song accompanied it as well. I think it was a Metallica song, but not “For Whom The Bell Tolls”.

The 300 thing
That did not play well over the PA system, could barely tell what it was, even knowing beforehand. I hope they do something different.
