Brewers targeting Hoffman
"I just spoke on the phone with Melvin, and he said he's trying to find out as soon as possible -- perhaps even by the end of today -- what the chances are of signing Hoffman. The 41-year-old right-hander became a free agent when San Diego decided not to offer him salary arbitration because of budgetary restrictions."
What having Gagne get lit up for them last year wasn't enough? Maybe they will sign Mitch Williams next year.

Hmmmmmmmmm
88.2% save percentage is pretty damn good. In fact its top 5 in all of baseball for 2008.
THAT is what Hoffman brings to the table.
What do YOU bring to the table other than ill-informed comments?
Do you know what we get to do today? We get to talk baseball!

I can cook a mean chicken quesadilla
Come on quit being blinded by your love for Hoffy.
First of all A) I still think he’ll be back in SD & B) If he actually does go to Milwaukee he is going to get lit up in that ballpark….and he knows it….which leads me back to the first thing I brought up…he’ll be back in SD.
What do YOU bring to the table besides little numbers you look up on ESPN? Can you knit or sew or something?

All this means to me
Is that is coming to a head. The Brewers are playing the part the Indians played a few years ago and the Padres will probably get an opportunity to match whatever the Brewers offer. I’m not too confident it will end the same way, but it feels like Hoffy will wait for Padres to match and then take the Padres deal, but it might start to get “soap opera”-y again since the new ownership/management is not present yet and he goes to the Brew-Crew.

I 100% agree with you Wonko
Same Trevor/Thurman antics just this time the Brewers are taking the place of the Indians. Basically I think it comes down to the Padres on this. Do they even want him back? On the field I wouldn’t mind him coming back but off the field the antics have gotten to me and I can’t stand the guy anymore so I could really care less either way.

Oh how about
crying to the media when Linebrink was traded just because they were friends even though it improved the team….or how about calling the media for a photo op when he came to clean out his locker in ‘05……..or how about going to the media again during this round of contract negotiations…….or how about demanding to talk to the owner WITH HIS AGENT…….or what about having Thurman call XX 1090 the day of the deadline to offer arbitration this year to spread a false rumor that he was going to sign with the Indians that day (oh yeah I’ve got sources)…..the guy has lived here for a considerable amount of time, his brother works on the same team as him, his wife has a shop here, his kids go to school here but because the Padres wouldn’t give him more money he tells the media it’s 99 to 1 he’ll be gone…..what an a-hole. Dude you’re 42 and you have the Padres to thank for a lot of your shiny cars and houses I think you need to be the one showing some respect.

It is shocking to me
the number of people that think this front office walks on water.

Its shocking to me
The number of people that undervalue the current front office. Because its far greater than the number that thinks it walks on water.

to be honest
I don’t think I undervalue them. I know who they are. I have followed their careers. I have read up on em. I even followed along blindly for their first three years here. Sandy has a nice resume, and this is San Diego for crying out load. We don’t see to many Sandy Aldersons running our sports teams ya know. Sandy is the man. The man with the impressive resume.
But you are right, there are a number of people out there that don’t know what we have in Alderson.
I doooo know, he doesn’t walk on water, and in the last six months, he has made some huge mistakes.
Yes, cover your ears, Sandy Alderson made a mistake. Its blasphemy around here, I know but ..
He made a mistake in how he dealt with Kahlil Greene, and he’ll see it at the turnstile a little.
He made a mistake in his very public trading of his CY Young winner (failed attempt i might add), and he will see it in the turnstile a touch.
He made a mistake with his very quiet hushed, hushed, shoving of Trevor out the door, and he is going to pay for that in the turnstile’s .. .. .. alot.
Now he is canceling fan activities like the friar fest? He just promoted the entire frigging front office, after a 99 loss season, and is canceling fan activities.
oh yeah. He makes mistakes. A ton recently.

projecting 90 wins
mistake
bringing in Jim Edmonds .. Mistake.
Letting Chase Headley sit in AAA, claiming “the pressure”, when everybody knew it was about money in 2014, and then bringing the kid up at Yankee stadium. What pressure?
Mistake.

Why doesn't that blame go to Kevin Towers
The GM is responsible for all those decisions. Obviously the CEO would know about them and approve, but he’s not the puppet master. If you disagree, then explain to me what you think Kevin Towers does? Does he just get ordered around by Sandy all day? Because I find that highly unlikely.

as i said before
KT works the phones and makes coffee. Towers couldn’t order sushi with out Alderson’s blessing.
and yes, Alderson currently IS the puppet master here in the 619.
