Happy Place... Happy Place

I'm in a down mood about this Padres team. I should be kinda happy. I'm very glad that we'll have Heath Bell closing games and I can get behind the boys, but I'm down and I'm gonna snap out of it right now.

This is my favorite song by Wolf Parade and it's how I'm going to think about the Padres for the 2009 season. Just tell me we'll be good and competitive and fun to watch and I'll believe it:

Here are the lyrics:

Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Your blood
Your bones
Your voice
and your ghost

We've both been very brave
Walk around with both legs
Fight the scary day
We both pull the tricks out of our sleeves

but I'll believe in anything
and you'll believe in anything
said I'll believe in anything
and you'll believe in anything

If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd take you where nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn
said nobody knows you
and nobody gives a damn

and I could take another hit for you
and I could take away your trips from you
and I could take away the salt from your eyes
and take away the spitting salt in you
and I could give you my apologies
by handing over my neologies
and I could take away the shaking knees
and I could give you all the olive trees
oh look at the trees and look at my face and look at a place far away from here

Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Give me your eyes
I need sunshine
Your blood
Your bones
Your voice
and your ghost

We've both been very brave
Walk around with both legs
Fight the scary day
We both pull the tricks out of our sleeves

but I'll believe in anything
and you'll believe in anything

If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd share a life and you'd share a life
If I could take the fire out from the water
I'd take you where nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn
I said nobody knows you
and nobody gives a damn
I said nobody knows you
and nobody gives a damn either way
About your blood
your bones
your voice
and ghost
because nobody knows you
and nobody gives a damn either way

and now I'll believe in anything

Limbo

It’s hard to get excited right now. The big news of the off season has been largely bad. Sure, there have been a couple of nice signings and it looks like the sale will go through to a decent owner, but it’s not yet enough to wipe out the bad taste of 99 loses and losing some popular players already along with the still high potential loss of Peavy. I mean, it seems like every other week I take down a picture of Alex with a player from our past years of photo ops. Last one standing is Peavy! I’m actually afraid to print out one of him with Agon for fear it will jinx that one too.

Sigh…

I’m trying though Dex, but it I hear ya on how hard it is. In the end though, I know for sure that I will feel some hope when Spring Training opens. I’m a reliable dan that way no matter how weak the roster might look :-)

I'm excited

I keep thinking about who’s still on the team and I can’t figure out why they were so bad last season. I can’t rectify 99 losses with the team we have.

So many close losses last year; by one run or one bad pitch from Joe Thatcher… that can’t happen again. It just can’t.

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? ◔ヮ◔

Wolf Parade!! Apologies to the Queen!

This album is sublime, I’m a huge fan of it. After seeing them at Coachella for the first time I grabbed the album and really, really have found it to be unique and kick ass.

Good reference. It’s a stretch of course, but I can see it. Self delusion about the team’s aspirations and goals, desire to go play good old school ball where stats and salaries don’t matter and nobody gives a damn.

In protest of adulthood

I'm following your lead Dex

and trying to snap out of my padres funk (which I’ve been in for the last 8 months or so)

…happy place, happy place, happy place…

aaaah, much better
