The NFL and NBA have full-time television networks up and running, and starting at 3 p.m. PST today Major League Baseball will follow.

ESPN, the most-watched sports cable station, reaches 98 million homes. The MLB Network, in part to forestall the access problems of the NFL Network, has made part-owners of several cable companies, including Time Warner, DirecTV and Cox, MLB Network President Tony Petitti said.

I watched Game 5 and the channel preview with hot stove live

Good stuff. Apparently Matty will be on air live every day during the regular season from 6pm until the last game is over.

MLB Network is for free.

They plan on showing one game a week on Saturday nights.

I’m a DirecTV customer and I like the MLB Extra Innings package. The only drawback is that in order to watch MLB E.I. in HD, you have to purchase “Super Fan”. This is a $5.99 additional fee on top of what it costs for MLB E.I. I think it’s ridiculous, but there’s no way in hell I’m gonna watch all of that baseball without HD.

So far, I’m pretty impressed with MLB Network. That’s a good team they have established there with Reynolds, Leiter, Larkin and Co. As long as it doesn’t become the exclusive home of Yankees / Red Sox highlights and analysis I’ll be happy.

I'm a baseball fan. What did you expect?

Edit.

MLB Network is free on DirecTV for sure.

On TWC the MLB network is part of the Variety pack

You may be able to add the pack alone for like 5$ but the bundle prices change a lot.

If you get that pack that includes SD and HD

Hmm

I’m on time warner and all I get is the 489 but it looks like it is mostly in HD with some exceptions. I dunno.

I find it absolutely amazing that Time Warner is on the ball with this

Still waiting for the NFL Network.

An FYI on Time Warner Cable

You technically have to have the “Variety” package to get the MLB network. You may have already added this package when you subscribed.

I had a long talk with TWC about the misleading info on thier website that states it should be part of the HDTV package.

But now that I have it, ARRRSOME!

Damn

I got my hopes up that it was for HDTV customers for a while.
