That leaves veteran righty Trevor Hoffman, baseball's all-time saves leader, as the only one of what Melvin called "A-type" closers available. Hoffman is also represented by Thurman, and while the Brewers are interested in at least exploring whether a deal can be struck, it is unclear whether the feeling is mutual.
"They haven't given us that indication," Melvin said.
I would think that Hoffman would be interested because there aren't any other teams interested him. The Padres still refuse to contact him and nobody else has got the balls to call him, so he better start giving some indication that he's interested or he's going to end up on the couch this season.
