Open Thread, 9/5: Padres vs Brewers

San Diego Padres at Milwaukee Brewers, Sep 5, 2008 5:05 PM PDT

What super powers would you want to have if you could only use them while playing baseball? I think a lot of people would say Superman's powers because then you could crush the ball and move really fast. Maybe use X-Ray vision to see if the pitcher's wearing a cup.

Me? I'd want the Invisible Girl's powers from the Fantastic Four. I wouldn't tell anybody that I had the powers though. It would be tons more fun to pull off the old Hidden Ball Trick by turning invisible. And if a throw's coming into home and I'm looking to take out the catcher, I might project an invisible barrier just before the ball reaches the infield to by myself a little more time.

INVISIBLE HIGH FIVE! GO PADRES!

It's a sad fate that the Brewers and Padres have been spoiling each other's seasons lately...

I mean, knocking each other, mutually, out of the playoffs last year. And now the Brewers really need these games—against our poor beat up boys—and the Padres are still fighting.

I’m of course rooting for the Padres to win….but I feel some kind of weird kinship with a franchise like the Brewers—-streaks of being terrible forever, not making a post-season since, what, like 1982, and now finally getting it together but being hideously outspent by the Cubs 300 million dollar acquisition bonanza. I mean, we should be allies. They have TG Jr. They have Mike Cameron. Russell Branyan was hanging around for awhile.

Padres should crush them the next two games, I hope, but I still want the Brewers to make the playoffs, not the stupid Cardinals.

Is that just me?

Well this is the one game in the series I was sure we were going to lose and had accepted it

But the fact that we had a chance to win it and didn’t, don’t know if that makes me feel better or not. Poor Giles, what more can he do that no one around him is doing.
