GasLamp's "Adopt a Team"
Being a baseball fan, and being use to rooting for my team during the September Push/Playoffs, I feel a little depressed that we have all this negativity surrounding our team. So I think we, as a community, should adopt a team to root for the next 6 weeks.
I am not suggesting we should become long term fans of this team, we are and will always be Padres fans, but for the sake of rooting for baseball we pick a team, root for them until they are out of the playoffs or win it all, then focus back on our Padres. I also think we should do this together, on a united front.
So I would like people to pitch what team we should root for over the next week.
My pitch is for the Rays. They have always been terrible, they play in division with two teams I despise. They have never employed Roger Clemens. Plus if we adopt them, we will DOUBLE the amount of current fans they have.

Tampa Bay Rays
Have my vote.
They have been the Cinderella story this season (Ya, I know it is an overused cliche) .
One of my other justifications in this pick is that they are an AL team, and it’s OK to have an AL team to root for as long as they don’t compete with your NL team. As Padres fans, it would be heresy to cheer for any other NL team.
My only other pick would be the Angels, just to because I’d like to see the title back in the west.

Going with the Twins
A) I don’t dislike them
B) Low payroll, still competing
C) Rays are too easy to root for

When did this turn into the Chris Ello show
He and Josh Rosenberg adopted the Rays like a month back, and now that he’s taken over for Hacksaw my drives home periodically contain their foolish brow furrowing over whether or not the Rays can take the division (go ask the 2003 Marlins if they are sad about not winning their division).
With all due respect, you are not allowed to find our division rivals sexy.

Considering, the Rays sound good
but what if we jinx them, what if justdave starts driving during their games and jdub makes a 4th cat video…

Well, duh!
Yes, I voted for the Doyers. However, I would like to know who my other two brothers-in-dreads are?

My favorite player is on their team.
Ozzie is the shite and a hoot.
Most HRs in MLB. They can rake.
Currently 10th best ERA in MLB.
Lots of fun to watch.

Angels
They have Mark Teixiera, and I want to see him succeed. And they have Urkel about to break the saves record, and I have a fondness for closers.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Brewers
I like the Rays, for the low-payroll, never been to the Prom story, and for the way they have made the Yankees look, but I gotta go with the Brew Crew:
1. They got TG jr and Mike Cameron
2. Perennial underdogs
3. Their uni’s most resemble ours
4. and this one is all I need If they win, it means the Cubs don’t, and, as I’ve said before, my hatred for the Cubs burns like a thousand suns.

I'm anti-Twins for the reason that they've gotten lucky
They’ve scored a huge percentage of runners in scoring position and outplayed their 3rd-order record (Baseball Prospectus). You might not care about that, though.
I’ve seen a bunch of threads like these at other team blogs, and the Rays are getting almost 3/4 of the vote everywhere, which is pretty interesting. They’re a great story, are winning with a low payroll and young players, have great pitching and defense, and have stuck it to the Yankees and Red Sox. Actually, that last one is probably pretty big — I’d even root for the Orioles if they were sticking it to the Yankees and Red Sox.

Alright
Can we ban the people that voted for the Red Sucks and Cubs?

Winner is the Rays
I guess we should probably start to have “Rays” talk and stuff. I am expecting to see some good fanpost from all of us Rays fan in the last two weeks.
