XX Sports Radio Interview: Bud Black

XX Sports Radio Interview:  Bud Black (MP3)

  • The poor season is a good way to look at young players like Headley and Hundley.  It might be a silver lining to a bad season.
  • Bud isn't aware of what is going on with Giles.  "I know that Brian enjoys San Diego and the Padres".
  • Brian Giles is a very desirable player for other teams.
  • Bud thinks it's 50/50 but he'd guess Giles might remain a Padre.
  • The misinterpretation might have been due to the fact that it was the umpire's first major league game.

50/50?

I would’ve said that after the Red Sox made the claim, there was a 70% chance that they didn’t really want him, a 70% chance that the Padres wouldn’t be able to come up with a trade that worked and a 90% chance that Giles wouldn’t actually want to have to relocate to Boston.

That doesn’t add up to 50% chance unless Bud’s working with some higher math.

Also, how does Bud Black figure 50-50?

Especially considering he had a feeling that Giles would stay. It’s not 50-50 then. It’s gotta at least be 51-49 if he’s willing to guess one way or another. Unless Bud Black is making a completely uneducated guess, which I might not be surprised about.
