Trevor Owes
This year Trevor Hoffman sucks. There is no way around that. I know we here at gaslamp have debated the hell out of Trevor and I’m not looking to do that here. In today’s game Trevor blew yet another save and ruined Jake’s best start of the year. Kev and Jbox couldn't take it and left early out of frustration. This really got me thinking how overpaid Trevor is at $10,000,000.00 this year.
Trevor is all heart and put’s everything he’s got into every appearance. Being such a stand up guy makes me wonder if HE thinks he’s overpaid. And if so, wouldn’t it be cool and upstanding if he gave back some of that money or took a pay cut next year. The money could be used for another player or better yet given to charity.
In 1960 Ted Williams, at the end of his career took a pay cut because he played so poorly the year before by his own standards. The Kid was a lifetime .344 hitter, but in 1959 he hit just .254. Ted knocked out 521 HR’s in his career but only 10 in 1959. Williams turned it around in 1960 and retired on a high note. How can you beat a HR in your final at bat?
This year Hoff’s ERA is almost a full point and a half higher than his career average. He is saving less than 90% of the games he appears in, not to mention the games he’s lost when entering in a tie. He’s given up four times the number of homeruns he did last year. And of course his strike outs per appearance have been falling off, thanks to an 85 mph fastball. Trevor is clearly not Trevor anymore. I think he is roughly 75% Trevor. And therefore owes back $2.5. Of course this will never happen, but it's food for thought.
Oh yeah, if you’re wondering what Ted gave back, it was 28%.
And yet one more thing...Special Thanks to Andre for once again keeping us hydrated with plenty of water and free T-Shirts to mop up the sweat.

Interesting gesture
by Williams, but I think both sides should stick to their contract.

Not only do I think this is ridiculous, but
Trevor Hoffman’s salary 2008 : $7,500,000
Eric Gagne 2008 : $10,000,000
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

ahem
Are you comparing Trevor Hoffman with Eric Gagne!?
I think Jon’s point is that Trevor should carry himself more like a Ted Williams. Eric Gagne’s halfway to Canada with his money.

Just saying
who’s worth what is a slippery slope.
Trevor gives to charity already, and obviously took less money to stay here.
Not to mention, hypothetically, FO would owe Jake and Maddux more money for having to endure this season.

Trevor is still no that bad this year
He’s not worth 7.5 mill, but I’m not sure what reliever is. But he’s still got an okay ERA and I think he is hindered by not going out there with regular work. I would also argue that he’s not “hindered” by an 85 MPH fastball, since it’s the same pitch he’s had for about 8 years now. It’s his control that fails him, especially his control of the changeup. I’m sure the player’s union would take issue with trying to give back salary, but hey if you want to ask Trevor to try, be my guest. I’d be willing to bet that no one here has the balls to do it.

Also
Not to get too stat happy, but his fastball averages 86.86 MPH this year. It was almost exactly the same (fractionally slower) in 2007.

Since
they are in the top 10 in Bowl Subdivsion and we are in the bottom ten of D1-A. They we’re favored to win the game. Besides the fact we have freshman at almost every position and injuries to half our D-Line. But ya, continue to beat up the retarded kid.

Well
when SDSU shocks the world vs Notre Dame and Purdue blows it against the Irish, you can have the last laugh. Until then I might just point all my disappointment in the local guys your way.

Not a bad fall back school, if you can’t go to the best.

Or probably at this point 5 would be pushing it. Plan on 6 years to graduate.

I think there's something to be said
for a team rewarding (overpaying) an icon who’s been around forever. Maybe not quite the insane contract Mariano Rivera got, but the same principle.
