Smells Like Padres in Here - Friday Edition

Underachievers unite!

As 'tec has noted, Hairston is done for the year.

Now that the season is lost, the bullpen is good.

A really nice piece on Sean Kazmar's call-up.

Hardball Times has a little breakdown of draft pick Logan Forsythe.

Simers crushes the Dodgers.  Never gets old.

Dirk Hayhurst makes his second major league startt this evening against Aaron Cook and the Colorado Rockies.  Last year, at this time, this would've been a pretty big series.  This year, I can already hear the crickets chirping.  "Game" time is 7:05pm PDT.

Aaron Cook!

We aren’t even going to make it past second base tonight. Boy I’m glad I have tickets tonight.

Me, too. Elvis will be in the building...

‘Elvis Night and Park at the Park Concert featuring “Forever Elvis” presented by Bud Light and brought to you by JACK FM and KFMB 760 AM.Make sure and stay after the game for a rockin’ Park at the Park concert tribute to the King featuring “Forever Elvis” presented by Bud Light. ’

It’s all about the Swinging Friar in an Elvis wig. And, of course, Luigi, too.

“Thank you, thank you very much.”

Wonko will leave the building

Before the Forever Elvis thingy. I’d rather get out of there and sink into my couch with a beer and the DVRed Chargers preseason game.

Hey, eastbaysd, if you’re walking around Petco tonight and the hair stands up on the back of you neck. You probably just walked by me. I promise I won’t turn around if you don’t.

Amendment to the GLBer Oath, Article VI, Part 2

“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the Padres against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same: that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and I will well and faithfully discharge the duty of not turning around when Wonko walks by, making the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. So help me God.”

But I cant guarantee anything. Because I will be well liquored up on sweet libations during the tailgate in a no-partying-allowed-or-you-get-busted-but-we-always-do-it-anyways parking lot. Which often makes the GLBer Oath null and void.

Dodger Bashing

I know it’s fun and all, but if that piece is any indication then this guy Simers is terrible writer. Reading that piece made me yearn more Nick Canepa and his near-nonsensical analogies that only make sense to an 80 year old. And that’s a tough thing to do.

All Canepa and Sullivan ever do is talk about how the Padres suck

And at least they write better than Simers. He’s probably one of the morons who ran DePo out of LA.

it's true

And it’s especially frustrating because of Canepa’s love affair with the Chargers.

I See

Link1
Link2

I was exaggerating a little, but it still doesn’t change that Simers really didn’t say anything worthwhile in his article. He’s just sort of whining without a real point other than “Look, look, rich man wants money early for something you’ll probably buy anyway”.

Canepa and Sullivan can kiss my backside and Simers can’t substitute whining for journalism and except me to like it.

I feel kinda bad for him

I would hate to have to write about something I obviously hate so much.

I guess

I wouldn’t really call either of those columns critical – they are the same worn out columns that both writers write on an annual basis. Canepa has regularly called the Padres boring, even in years when they’ve won the division. Neither guy expends much energy in really getting underneath what goes on in the organization

Simers has always been a curmudgeon, but what I like about him is that he makes fun of the entire organization, criticizes players, management and ownerships when justified and still shows his face in that clubhouse on a daily basis. And he writes positively about the organization when it’s deserved – even if that’s pretty rare these days.

I hope Hayhurst shuts them down tonight.

I want the gold too (100 losses and dead last place), but I’m really pulling for Dirk. BTW, I went to the Beavers’ game last night and Wade Le Blanc dominated. Antonelli even jacked one over the wall dead center. Meredith pitched the ninth and the game ended with the Salt Lake Bee’s GIDP. It was a great ending to the 2008 home schedule.

(c) The Chinese government, for revoking the visa of former Olympian and Team Darfur activist Joey Cheek
(d) The IOC, for saying nothing about Cheek
