"This is a call to all my past resignations..."

I hate to come off as some 80-year old pining for the "good ole days"...but the more I watch this team lose, watch players I care about shipped out of town, watch valuable members of the roster head to the DL one-by-one...I can't help but long for the excitement, fun and anticipation that came with each game in 2005, 2006 and 2007.  Games with real meaning. Games where I made a point to be ready at first pitch. Games where I would log onto the GLB a few minutes early to see if the Open Thread was up and ready to go.

The winning, the fight for the NL West, the possibilities in the playoffs...all those things were that much more intense because of the GLB.

I miss the truly great Open Thread's of the past. I know that having a garbage team makes it difficult...but I want to try and squeeze one great one out of '08.

Here is my idea: This coming Tuesday (Aug. 26th) is a home game against the D-Backs. Let's all try and make a point of showing up...regulars, former regulars, the newbies...EVERYBODY. Pre-2.0, the goal was to collapse the sucker...that's what I'm looking for.  Hell, I even want rainbows, unicorns, dancing spideys, Dolphin Porn, J Dub calling a no-hitter...all of it.

(And yes, I'm looking at you Dex, jbox, kev, TheGrandHatching, TheThirdGonzalez, Demoira, Christina, SammyG, ABY, Dalton, matto619, 17YOGP, freelunch, sdsuaztec4, Winfield's Ghost, Phantom, thepadfather, TheRevRun, jpleeg, RBS, fairweather, sdgaucho, SDChickN, CurbEnthusiasm, thenerdhater, JollyWaffle, goose1, socalgirl30, motooole, padresgirlforlife44, wiggins4ever, wiggins mom, Axion, peavyrules, JBro12, pjbno4, Wonko, Pants, bktabinga, eastbaysd, iLOVEkouz5, 'Eaters, justdave, The Kipper, friarinchicago, boilermaker19, sacpadre, mrshuber, planetjeffy, royhobbs....you all know who you are.)

Is this idea ridiculous? Or are you guys feeling the same way?

maybe you should try to get the Padres to show up

Actually, they’re not doing anything these days, so maybe they will.

I'll try to be there

It’s really odd. I rarely find myself trying to make time to watch the boys anymore. It’s not that I don’t care about the team, I just have other priorities right now.

Good idea

I’ll try to stop by for a little bit. You have to understand, I’m very busy. With stuff. Lot’s of… stuff.

i'll do my best.

i’ll be busy til about 9, but i think i can jinx us with some quality “driving home from work” mojo for the game…

its really gotten quite ridiculous that it keeps happening like that. i’m seriously considering donating my truck to charity for the sake of the San Diego Dads.

Correction!

After pulling a few strings, in honor of our special GLB Open Thread…the Padres have set-up something to start off us right that day:

Padres rookie Chase Headley will be participating in a live chat on padres.com on Tuesday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m. PDT. Fans can ask Chase about the season, his favorite ballpark, his thoughts on being a Major Leaguer or any other topic. You must be a registered member of padres.com to participate in the chat. Registration is easy and free, so sign up now to chat with Chase.

Sweet

I’m not invited, that means I get to party crash, clog the toilet, shove a bunch of beer bottles in my pockets then leave.

I can only participate

If someone loans me their laptop.
I would love to be a part of an epic and historic OT of the GLB.
But, alas, it is not to be.
I will be at this game.
Although it is also Unused Ticket Nite, I have a season ticket.
I just love attending DBag games.

Maybe I can get someone to ghostwrite for me…

This made me want to find out when my first post was

So I starting looking at the 2006 archives. Great stuff. I saw a spring training OT where Dex and jbox were the only commenters, that’s just weird. A post about Klesko hitting the DL that including gems like this:

I’m going to have to side with Richard here. Klesko is necessary in San Diego, considering the relative lack of offense there. I mean really guys, Brian Giles accounted for almost 45% of your offense in 2005. Adrian Gonzalez’s biggest strength is his glove, and even though it is a low scoring environment in SD, you need the bat there more at the moment.

And the busiest OT which was an epic September Wells (SD) v Maddux (LAD) game.

Also, Richard of FutureFriars and FriarFaithful and Geoff of Ducksnorts used to comment here back then.

I don't have to always be right. I just have to always think I'm right.

by Wonko on Aug 21, 2008 4:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

The oldest post of mine I could find

Is from jbox’s comments on a Sandy Alderson 1090 interview where I classically take something jbox says jokingly and treat it with complete seriousness. Good thing I’ve learned not to do that anymore.

I don't have to always be right. I just have to always think I'm right.

Oh whoops

The busiest OT (by far) was a few games later Jake Peavy pitched and apparently the Dodgers hit a couple home runs late in the game or something. Trevor may have been involved.

Just a point of clarification

I don’t think Drama meant to exclude anyone. I think he was making a point to try and round up those of us who have been somewhat absent from the threads as of late. Being “on the list” isn’t necessarily as much of an invitation as it was a “Hey you bunch of lazy ass people who call yourselves fans why don’t you get your ass in an OT for a change” thing.

So not being on the list is kind of a good thing rather than any sort of slight.
