Padres fans are some of the most loyal baseball fans
Or we're right around average, depending on how you want to look at it. Forbes made a top ten list and Padres fans came in right at number 10.
Forbes based their numbers on how consistent fans have been in attending games since 1991, which seems just as good a metric as any so long as we can be ranked ahead of Dodger and Giants fans. Such fairweather fans.
Actually, I've been hanging onto the mantra that we've got the most fairweather fans in baseball so I'm a little weirded out by these results. I don't know how to act now that I've been told by Forbes that I'm not the only person who's loyal to this crap team. It's like finding out that I'm not the only one in the world who's heard of the incredible vocal talent that is John Mayer. Or being like, "There's a terrific new store for delightful knick knacks that I've just discovered over the weekend called Things Remembered."
Maybe this explains why the Padres haven't gone after free agents. "Those suckers are so loyal! They stay with us through anything!" We're all part of some crazy torture experiment where we're forced to watch bad baseball under the guise of "well we made the playoffs didn't we?"
THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES!!!

I'm not sure what to say about this
“While Padres fans are a far cry from Red Sox and Cubs fans, they’re still more consistent than Los Angeles Dodgers or Angels fans.”

I think it's a backhanded compliment
since we got compared to Red Sox, Cubs, and Dodgers fans.

The Braves?
Their fans won’t even show up to support a playoff game.

I'm amazed
That Braves showed up so high. Not only can they not sell out a playoff game, they can’t even sell out a Red Sox or Cubs game. Atlantans don’t show unless the Braves are winning, and that’s one thing they’re not doing this season. Yesterday’s game, some Cub dropping was holding up a sign that said “Wrigley of the South.” It’s also the Fenway of the South during interleague, as well. I can’t stand fair-weathered Cubs/Red Socks fans.
The writer clearly bases his theories on the half-decade expired theory that the Braves have a legion of fans thanks to TBS. But even those are fair-weathered.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

The Braves thing was weird to me too
The only thing that I can think is that their attendance doesn’t fluctuate for anything. Win, lose, rain, shine, playoff, regular season… Their fans get the stadium to about 65% capacity and stay right there.

I assume that means that the same reasoning explains the Padres #10 ranking
In which case, I’m not really sure what that says about the fan base. Wouldn’t an inconsistent fan base like LA where their lowest attendance levels are higher than our average attendance make them have more loyal fans? I guess it’s trying to say that of the entire Padre fan population, the Padres fans have a relatively high percentage of loyal fans. Whoop-dee-do!
I don't have to always be right. I just have to always think I'm right.

I think there's just a steady amount of people who like to go to games
who aren’t necessarily fans. The weather sells tickets as much as the product on the field does.
If there were some kind of tradition of winning here, more expectation, I think there’d be more fluctuation.
can you cure us of this fate
