Smells Like Padres in Here - Wednesday Edition

With absolutely nothing on the line, Padres lose to the Brewers.  What a terribly unexciting game that was.  Baseball Fever.  Don't die from it.

The Padres and Ft. Wayne extend their agreement.

"He's the best guy we have to play shortstop," Padres manager Bud Black said

Tonight Josh Banks takes on CC Sabathia.  Bud is gonna be really confused because we've actually already faced Sabathia this season when he was with the Indians.  Game time is 7:05pm PDT.

The UT article

also mentions that we may still sign Mooneyham. That would be a good thing.

I'm not holding out hope

That guy wants big money and that’s why everyone else stayed away from him. Would be a nice get, but I’m not holding my breath.

Gerut and Kouz go yard

"...do hereby declare that I am not a member of the Human race (not an earthling) and in fact am an alien from another planet other than earth. I hope that this will prove to the person that is putting electric shocks to my head that I am an alien. I am declaring this so that I am not in any violation of any world or international laws of the earth as I am showing by this admission that I am in fact an alien."

This is crazy.

Check this out from Tom Krasovic.

The Padres have responded with their best power surge of the season. They have hit 37 home runs since the All-Star break to lead all National League clubs. But in the same stretch, the Padres are 9-15, keeping them in last place in the subpar NL West.

how does our team do a complete 180 from last season?

stupid game 163, jacked up our mojo.

our NL West mini-dynasty seems to be coming to a close (sniffle tear)

Giles news....

There are conflicting reports.

Peter Gammons says we are NOT picking up Giles option for 2009.

I don’t blame Giles because he loves the life and the surf of the west coast. It surprises me because had he come to Boston and had a good September, he might have had his option for 2009 picked up, which isn’t going to happen in SD. The Cubs management was recalling that in 2003 they made a deal to bring Rafael Palmeiro out of last place in Texas to first place in Chicago and he rejected it because they wouldn’t extend his contract for the 2004 season.

GLB favorite Jon Heyman says we WILL pick-up his option.

Even if Brian Giles had accepted a deal to Boston it might have been difficult to consummate one. “He’s not just a giveaway. He can still play,’’ one competing GM said about Giles. That GM said he expects the Padres to pick up his $9 million option rather than buy him out for $3 million.

Does PG

even know about the Padres? Or that matter the NL? I am pretty sure only knows about the Redsox and the evil opponnent

This is one of those rare circumstances

where I think Heyman is right. Giles effective cost for us next year is $6 million, since he’s gonna get 3 no matter what. A solid defensive RF with a 120 OPS+ just doesn’t grow on trees. We should definitely pick up his option.

Heyman > Gammons ???

Excuse me, I’m going outside to check if the sun has exploded yet.

Well obvoiusly

Gammons is right, and Brian Giles is, in fact, Raphael Palmeiro.

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?
