Smells Like Padres in Here - Thursday Edition
So let's see. Swept by Seattle and lose 2 out of 3 to the Rockies. I think we can stake our claim to Suckiest Team in Baseball.
What is it with this team and broken noses?
I'm linking this for two reasons: the headline juxtaposed with the photo makes it seem as if Barrett is getting a face transplant or something; and at the bottom, the little factoid on Tomko is the kind of funny thing we're getting used to. He sucks AND he's hurt?
The SI cover story on Tim Lincecum and his mechanics is outstanding.
Off day today before the "big showdown" in Arizona. Remember - according to Adrian, we now have to win 7 of the next 9 or we're done. (Giggle.)

Well I'm glad
that Barrett took care of himself for us. At least we now get a chance to see what Hundley has.
i really can't cheer for an injury
and i definitely can’t get super excited and pour beer all over myself in celebration leaving myself kind of gross and sticky, and ruining my carpet.
unrelated, anyone know any good carpet cleaners?
DISCLAIMER – i’m obviously kidding, i don’t want the Barrett defenders attacking me for rooting for an injury, even if he is the anti-awesome.

Barrett
For all the bad things I’ve said about Barrett. He was batting over .200 at the time of the injury. I thought the day we would have a .200 hitting catcher would never come. Then it did! Then, he got hurt.
I don't have to always be right. I just have to always think I'm right.
something i find to be particularly sweet
it would be very very difficult for us to lose today.
if any team could find a way to lose when they don’t play it would be these guys.
but i won’t let the lack of a game dampen the sweet sweet success of not losing.
so break out the cigars ladies and gents, the Padres are non-losers! (today)

Ah, but...
They can still lose ground in the standings/gain ground in the Strasburg, because everybody else is playing today, even those evil Mariners. Every one of them has at least a slim chance of winning today also, even though none of them is playing the Padres.

"gain ground in the Strasburg"
This should really be a part of all Padre fans conversations.
“How about that ass-kicking the Rockies put on us last night?”
“Yeah, no kidding. And the Mariners won!”
“Isn’t that sweet? We now have sole posession of first in the Strasburg.”
That Lincecum article
Is without a doubt, the baseball article I have read. Ever. Period.
I don't have to always be right. I just have to always think I'm right.
I suck at reviewing my posts, I need an editor.

The whole bio-mechanics thing was really interesting, wasn't it?
Not great to see Peavy get mentioned in there, though.

excellent article i agree
but the peavy thing gave me the shakes. i always thought his delivery looked a little violent.

Barrett Update:
Michael Barrett flew back to San Diego this morning.
The Padres are expected to make an announcement about Barrett’s condition later today. Meantime, the club is also expected to promote catcher Nick Hundley, 24, from Triple-A Portland to take Barrett’s spot on the 25-man roster.
I do not have a good feeling
About Nick Hundley. His game at this point is all power and I haven’t heard anything good about his defense (and I’m sure Bud Black will try to hand wave his way into saying that he likes Hundley’s defense, “This is not the bad defense you are looking for”).
I don't have to always be right. I just have to always think I'm right.
Dude's nailed
base runners at a 40% clip and was considered the second-best defensive catcher the year we drafted him. So he’s going to be better than Barret behind the dish.
"cranky right elbow"
I’m starting to think that is all our pitching staff is made up with….and cranky broken noses….I always thought Lincecum’s wind up look a little violent….but he has AWWWWWSOME stuff so I guess I have to read this article. I LOVED the one on that alternate pitching motion that someone posted a few weeks ago.
Does anyone else watch Sport Science on FSN? If you like pitching mechanics and stuff you’ll love that show. But don’t take my word for it… DUH DUH DUH! (that reading rainbow post was one of my faves of all time)
Padres Baseball. Feel the Frustration!
Speaking of injuries...
The D-Backs have real problems of their own...but none worse than Chris Snyder’s.
Snyder was hit by a foul ball off the bat of Milwaukee outfielder Corey Hart in the fourth inning. Snyder was diagnosed with a left testicular fracture and will have surgery on Wednesday.
Ummmm…..
can u say
ouch babe?? Man nalive!

The crazy thing is
He’s only expected to miss the minimum (15 days). As BP’s Will Carroll said about this injury: I’m day-to-day just thinking about it.

i think when you see wind ups in super slow mo
you can see how much torque is on the shoulder. They are definitely “maxing out” the force on their shoulder…pitching is pretty violent anyway…..but that curve ball is about the nastiest thing I have ever seen….like PV’s slider

What kind of transplant does this headline suggest?

can you cure us of this fate

no there was another headline that said something about "changing faces" in the padres clubhouse
www.wellbelowthemendozaline.blogspot.com
Yeah that's still the same headline for the article
This one seems to have other implications.
Ok, I’m bored and we’re not allowed to play with the new people. It was either this, or start a Velvet Rope Thread: No jboxen.
