Let me begin by saying I am a Padre fan. This season has been a very big disappointment. I am able to pinpoint my belief in the failures of the team to manager Bud Black. When you watch him through the game or in interviews he seems very satisfied with the play of the team.

Where is the fire in this team? The team and even the fans in the stands are so complacent of mediocre play. Oh, they are so nice. Nice players, nice fans. All 15,000 of them.

At a recent game, a friend and I booed Khalil Greene as he was about to strike out for the last out of the game. The fans in the section cheered when the usher came and spoke to us. The entire section was quite satisfied with the player’s lackluster play and felt that voicing displeasure with losing was wrong for a fan.

Tell me if I’m wrong on this point; sixteen times the Padres have put a runner on third with less than two outs. Never have they attempted a suicide squeeze. Almost always they leave the runners on base.

Let’s look at the Mets. Performing like the Padres (getting swept by the Padres). They change managers, Manuel tells the players, winning is the most important thing and they either give 100% or they won’t play. Wow, a manager who changes the performance of the players. What a concept!
