Open Thread: 7/22, Padres vs. Reds

San Diego Padres @ Cincinnati Reds

Everybody wants to talk Padres today, backyard swimming pool.

I think Peavy should hit in front of Luke Carlin and Khalil.

Go Padres!!

bunt foul twice

does Jake do that so we’ll let him swing?

The Wolf is gone...

sad to say, Randy Wolf was nails for this team the first six, seven weeks of the season… though I am more upset by the D-backs acquisition of big Jon Rauch

true, and surprisingly so

i was ready to put a fork in him, but he’s still such a gamer.

I have to admit

Giles has been my favorite Padre since ‘04. He’s consistent and professional and a great clubhouse presence.

Peavy? Ugh.

When does Clay start again?

alright time to drive home from the office

hopefully the Padres don’t stink it up when i’m gone. although they have a tendency to play well when i’m gone. and i’m always here.

oh shit i may be the antichrist.

I have no problems with the crooked hat

express yourself. wear your hat crooked D-train, CC, the rest. iron the bill flat Chad Cordero, that’s a cool look. hell, grow big Bob Marley dreads if you hit .300/30/100 every year like Manny.

Heat Bell

anybody else seen the hat he dons in the eighth? when he pitches like he does, he can bend the bill of his cap into a w for all i care

whatever it takes to channel Shooter Beck, RIP

Haven't seen that one yet

It’s on the DVR, I think.

My favorite recent one was the one in Namibia where he had to eat the wild boar and he almost puked.

My wife says I'm wrong

Not a complete 2 yr wait – but there’s a ton of weeks in 2009 that you can’t get a cake because they are already booked. (All booked for 2008) And she says its a thousand bucks minimum for a cake.

She’s a big fan:)

by Winfield's Ghost on Jul 22, 2008 7:52 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

dang a thousand bucks minimum

although they are amazing cakes

Tomorrow

We should do an over/under contest on number of HR’s Maddux gives up in that bandbox.

by Drama on Jul 22, 2008 7:45 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Greg's through with hard-luck losses.

He’s decided if he’s going to lose, he’s gonna earn it.

The boys will score 7, but Greg + BP will give up 9.

Buster Olney

Says a trade of Maddux to the Dodgers is very possible and that the team is shopping Brian Giles and Cla Meredith and gearing everything towards 2009.

by Drama on Jul 22, 2008 7:54 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Brian isn't going anywhere.

It costs another, what, $3 million to trade him? And we haven’t got anything better to replace him with.

by maestro876 on Jul 22, 2008 8:59 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If they are shopping Giles

they aren’t gearing anything towards ‘09.

by Winfield's Ghost on Jul 23, 2008 6:14 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I didn't understand that part either.

I only mentioned it because it’s Buster. Buster is a good guy, knows the Padres well and is usually pretty reliable with his information. (He was the one that had the Wolf to the Astros story first and he must have had a damn good source to put that rumor out there.)

He’s no Ken Rosenthal or Scott Miller, but hey…

by Drama on Jul 23, 2008 6:23 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It makes sense to shop Giles

Most valuable commodity they have right now. But if they are, there’s no way they are playing for next year. Trading Giles to me would mean getting a couple of good young players in return, which means they’d need at least a year to get ready.
