Open Thread, 7/17: Padres vs St. Louis
San Diego Padres at St. Louis Cardinals, Jul 17, 2008 5:15 PM PDT
Remember back when Matt Vasgersian absolutely trashed St. Louis? He swore he wasn't coming back and yet here he is on my television screen.
Tonight's drinking game: Take a sip whenever Matt mentions "ozarks", "el caminos" or "humidity".
And Tony Clark is gone.
That right there is some kinda lineup. GO PADRES!!!

The money they could rake in if they just surcharged for the option of no blackouts...
MLB Advanced Media has got to be in the top 10 of the stupidest whatever-they-are’s in the world.

Absolutely
I’m not sure what my limit would be on spending more for SD broadcasts, but I know I would pay more if it were offered.

I think Bud Black
is asking himself the same question.
"Kouzmanoff singled to left center, Gonzalez scored, Gonzalez to second."
That’s hot.

How many bags of sunflower seeds did we get for Tony Clark?

One time someone once said
and maybe it was Greg Maddux, that every pitcher is going to have about 10 starts out of 30 where he doesn’t have his stuff. I don’t think Jake has been off that much this year, he just seems human compared to last year.

I think there's a lot of us still lurking.
Unfortunately, in the off-season I paid 6 million dollars for a washed up 38 year old version of myself to post at Gaslamp Ball and he hasn’t exactly worked out. Even after I released myself, I didn’t improve.

I say we just use GLB for Chargers stuff too.

To hit?
Or to stand in the box and watch pitches go by? :)
Could be worse... could be the offseason.
watch pitches go by or even swinig at sliders down and away

i agree with mudd
why not keep Greene in and bunt him over so a sac fly ties it
Greene does have some speed and maybe even beats it out
i know its unrealistic to salvage the season but i’d like to see them try

been very critical of Bud Black’s decisions. And I like it.

Luis Rodriguez. Bryan Myrow. Nick Hundley.
Tony Clark wasn’t doing much….but really? 9th inning, tying run on second, no outs and THIS IS THE BEST THE PADRES HAVE TO TAKE AT-BATS?
well we already used jake
so…yes
May you be mounted by a rabid dog. You're lower than rat excrement.
ridiculously lame loss

Dear Mariners...
Guess who just took sole-possession of second place in the Strasburg?? That’s right, bitches!!!
You’re next Nationals!!!
Somehow the Padres will find a way to lose even that race, unfortunately
Trust me, if by losing they’d win something, they’d find a way to win…in order to lose. Get it?
My optimistic sign-off: 2005 Detroit Tigers, 71-91
2006 Detroit Tigers: 95-67. AL Pennant.
Of course, they also drafted Justin Verlander back in 2004…..Hows that guy we got doing?
2005 Tigers were a good team
that needed some pitching.
the next year they had it.
This Padre team has many more holes
I was there last night
and I thought LaRussa was gonna hand the game to the Pads in the 9th..he had Isringhausen warming up and almost brought him in…that would’ve guaranteed a 5 run inning for the Pads.
Doing some dollar bets with my friends and one of them was that Adam Kennedy would make the last out in the 8th…he hits that line shot into the gap…but your CF comes up with an awesome diving catch. My friend screams out, “I hate you center fielder!”.
I also loved the pinch hitters in the 9th….totally a Major League moment, “Who ARE these guys?”
I announced
after Glaus’ first two HR’s that he’d hit the next one within 10 ft of the warning track.
Lost 2 bucks on that one when he hit one to shallow Right Center.
I also called that Peavy would get a hit, but no one took it fast enough.
