1998

It’s sad that our greatest season in franchise history doesn’t include a ring.

by Drama on Jul 12, 2008 7:15 PM PDT reply actions

1984 was our greatest season

and, um, no, there was no ring then either.

by Winfield's Ghost on Jul 12, 2008 7:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Probably

Unless Langston STILL doesn’t get that call against the 84 team…

by Winfield's Ghost on Jul 12, 2008 7:23 PM PDT up reply actions

There was just no possible way it wasn't a strike.

I bet even Steinbrenner was up in his box saying: “Whoa. What a horrible call.”

by Drama on Jul 12, 2008 7:28 PM PDT up reply actions

That or

“Hey. We’re gonna win another World Series.”

by Winfield's Ghost on Jul 12, 2008 7:30 PM PDT up reply actions

They effing showed that pitch

again.

I exclaimed some non-family-friendly language and left my section to save yet another dollar on PETCO beer. (stone!)

Hello Padres fans

I hope nobody minds if I chime in every now and then; no, I won’t be obnoxious if we score a run, because frankly, the Braves couldn’t score with their own wives and girlfriends right now. Oh yeah, and we’re also like 2-12 in our alternative road-blue jerseys. Amen, did Maddux just make that opening frame look like little league. We miss the heck out of him down in Atlanta.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

The kindness is appreciated

You guys are far the friendliest “away fans” I’ve encountered.

I've seen some jabs

Thanks

Nice name too. We’ve got you starting on our Fantasy All-Star Team.

Heck yeah

Thanks, the Natural was one of those life-inspiring books to me. The book, and the movies. I was pulling for him, Benny the Jet, and Kelly Leak in your earlier deciding.

padres fans

Are the nicest I’ve met too.

What bothers me

Is that it seems like it took 15 minutes for Florida to win their first World Series and then Arizona won 5 minutes after that and then Florida got another one.

Shit TORONTO got two back to back…

How long must we wander in the championship desert?

by pasadenapadre on Jul 12, 2008 7:33 PM PDT reply actions

At least

Non-fans don’t throw in “14 consecutive division titles, but only one World Series!!!” to you guys.

It gets old sometimes

But I suppose every team has to deal with non-fan harassment to some degree. Yankee fans probably get a lot of crap about not winning a title since 2000, Cubs fans, as you mention are getting the 100 year crap, etc…

It's been that way

a lot lately. The Chargers seem to suffer from a similar malady.

But then again, after having to watch these teams in the past (and in the case of the Padres, now), it certainly could be worse.

At my office always pulls the “history” card on me and I love reminding him that half of their beloved history was in NEW YORK

Headley

Good baserunning there.

I’m really starting to find religion because of this guy.

The game I went to at PETCO in the end of May

I was sitting in front of a guy in 109 who said he was Jody Gerut’s brother in law, and was screaming his lungs out every single at-bat.

Vaughn

You know what’s funny about Greg Vaughn? In ‘98, he wasn’t exactly a speed guy….but he caused some serious havoc on the base paths that season.

Wow

There is nothing more I can say about the turn events of Maddux. I hope there is a member who is going to YouTube/animated GIF that there…

You know what, you guys can have this game.

I’ve already witnessed history.

17 perfect games
14 unassisted triple plays
11 Greg Maddux stolen bases.

Yeah, sorry about the slo-load, but if I shrunk it any further, “Maddux” would’ve been illegible on the jersey. I figure I can be forgiven for the delay in load time for the sake of visibility . . . right? :-)

I was sitting right behind there

..in Section 109 and I swear I saw Texiera back away from the back and I thought to myself that Maddux had just told him he was too old to be stealing so he might as well back away and not bother holding him on – and then he bolted!! I laughed so frigging hard and of course gave him a standing ovation for it. Lordy I hate that we cannot win for this amazing pitcher.

by Christina on Jul 12, 2008 11:28 PM PDT up reply actions

OMG awesome!

I was laughing until the inning was over!!!!

Save this image, this is the oldest pitcher to steal a base EVER!
