Smells Like Padres in Here - Thursday Edition

A little more than a week ago, All Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez said "If we go 8-4 to the break and get to within six out on Arizona ... we're not too far out. It doesn't sound great, but it's been done before. I think everything rides on these next 12 games.  Six-and-six, we're done. Seven-and-five, though. But 8-4. It's something to shoot for. We've created the start."

8-4 is no longer a possibility.  I fully expect them to come out tomorrow in shorts and T-shirts, drinking beer and treating the rest of the season like a softball league.  44 more losses should not be that difficult to achieve.

Grandpa Canepa says it's not Bud's fault.  This would be a more credible piece if Canepa ever actually watched a Padres game.  Pretty sure he wrote the same column about Bochy a number of years ago and just changed "Bochy" to "Black" for this one.  Actually, he probably just changed "ochy" to "lack."

As has been discussed here all week, seems Clark may be on the block.

Wolf would like to stay in SD.

Off day today before the Braves arrive in town for the last series before the break.

Found the padres.com recap headline amusing

We’re at the point where we’re looking for any tiny little 2-watt bright spot to highlight. It basically said our team was bad yesterday, but we did have one reliever pitch well! Woo hoo! Hmmm.

Could be worse... could be the offseason.

100 losses is definitely in the cards

we just might have the cast of characters to make this happen…

I think somehow these guys are better than 100 losses.

Don’t forget that these are the 2007 Texas League Champion San Antonio Misssions!
They’re so good that they’ve trampolined their way from Texas to Oregon to SoCal in less then a year’s time. The current Padres roster is probably only good for 96-97 losses. Sorry WG.
The only way we can achive the dream of 100 losses…TRADE HAIRSTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He’s a thorn in our side the way he’s been swinging the bat lately. At the very least Black should bench him in favor of TC in the outfield.

Adrian changed his mind

Forget 8-4 or 7-5. Now we must win 80% of the rest of the games.

Could be worse... could be the offseason.

Maybe he thinks this is football?

Training camps are about to start. There might be some confusion.

I don't have to always be right. I just have to always think I'm right.

That is funny.

Adrian, It’s time to start thinking about where you’re going on vacation this October. Being the only source of offense for your club this season and not getting a day off for six months… You will have earned it.
