Allan Dykstra from Depo

I don’t like this pick. Normally I root for guys from my own high school (Rancho Bernardo), but scouting reports say Dysktra is barely a first basemen and was projected to go much later. I know this isn’t need based, because power hitting DHs are not a need. Then why did we reach for the guy? After being very happy with recent drafts, I am already very disappointed with this one.

I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

Harsh

But I appreciate the candor.

If the guy

hits as well as projected, who cares if he can field?

Wait, wait, I know this one!

Because we already have a first baseman!

So what's the ETA?

Ya know, until Depo’s blog gets taken down?

Unless the Padres know something about realignment that we don’t, this guy’s trade bait at best. Usually a team looks for need in a draft, though sometimes they go with the best player on the board. In this case, how the hell did we manage to do neither?

by California Penal on Jun 6, 2008 7:38 AM PDT reply actions

Other way around

Sometimes teems go for need, usually they go with the best player available (for the right money).

UT has a very small comment that says the Padres picked Dykstra, 1. Because their board got “wiped out” with the earlier picks and 2. Because they expected the DBags to take him 3 picks later.

I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

I don't like that logic

We picked someone to cockblock the DBags? Shouldn’t we be more worried about ourselves?
