Irritating Out of Towner Home Stand

The schedule maker must have been laughing when this combination came up for the Padres.

Chicago Cubs

New York Mets

Los Angeles Dodgers

The three teams (save maybe St. Louis) who have the most insufferable fans that come to the game. People that lived 4 months in Chicago, went to Wrigley once, move to SD, been living here for 28 years, and are Cubs fans. Dodger fans because they won in the 70s and 80s. Mets fans because of 69 and 86.

I'm voting for Cubs. At least Dodger fan is cheering and rooting towards the field. With every Cub hit, walk, strike, or safe call I was treated to a speech from various drunk former Northsiders than found a soapbox and must tell me for the ten-thousandth time that this is their year, Padres suck (thanks, I got that), etc. I usually bring up Bartman, 1984, goats, that the C on hats stands for "choke", etc.

I voted

Chicago, but I would also vote “Other” for the RedSox. Absolutely the scum of the earth, they are.

Some fans ruin it for us all

I’m a die hard Cubs fan (who use to live in SD – attended SDSU) and can tell you it happens everywhere. It’s unfortunate how some fans can really put a bad taste in your mouth about other teams. Good luck tonight guys!

Hmmm...

I got thrown off by the “out-of-towners” part. There are a lot of dodger-fans now living in san diego, who from my experience try to turn our home games into Raider games…

I voted for "other"...

...as in Padres fans. Not our fault you can’t fill up your own stadium. We’re just trying to help. You guys need someone to teach you how to cheer for your team without the help of an electronic scoreboard.

Charger fans have a stadium.

And it fills up nicely.

giants fans

the worst when they are at petco. i would rather go to dodger stadium in my adrian gonzalez jersey than sit next to a group of giants fans at petco.

I didn't vote

Since I am no longer in San Diego, but if Cubs fans are as bad in San Diego as they are at home, they should win hands down. I will probably never return to the unfriendly confines after the way I was treated there by the jerks in blue. My only offense was wearing my Padres jersey. I was holding my infant, and still got beer thrown on me simply because the Cubs, as was most often the case at the time, were losing. Fine memory for my first-born’s first baseball game.

Seriously?

I don’t think I’ve missed a Padres game at Wrigley in 5 years. Every single time I wore a Padres jersey, and most people just laughed. I really like the atmosphere there.

Should have been multiple choice

I voted “other”... BoSox fans are insufferable and you can’t understand what they’re saying. Funny how they go back to a dialect one can understand as soon as their team leaves town.

by sqrunt on Jun 4, 2008 2:09 PM PDT reply actions

agreed.

last year when boston came, we went to p.b. afterwards and everyone is yelling “go sawx” and you know they live right down the street. and let’s not forget everyone who jumped on the rockies bandwagon after their world series appearance last year. i went to an SD-COL game earlier this year and saw so many people wearing “world series” addition rockies hats. too many people in san diego go out of their way to follow every other team but the padres. lame.

I was at the game last night

and a bunch of cubs fan was in our section, saying “pad suck”, “lou is great”. yada yada yada.

I just took calmly looked at the biggest drunk of them and said, “Enjoy it now, its not going to be fun once you get swept by the Marlins in the first round” and he just looked at his beer and sat down for the rest of the game.

Cubs fan doesn't stick you with a shiv.

That’s Dodger fan behavior.

20 times worse than any other fans.

Cub Fan

Oh, are they arrogant for fans of a team that has one about one playoff series during the course of their lives.

by TheGhostofRickMonday on Jun 4, 2008 9:46 PM PDT reply actions

i voted st.louis

i have this weird curse where i always end up sitting by opposing fans
and BY FAR st.louis fans were the worse

I sat next to a group of seven and wanted to cry.
Not only did they stink with their garlic frys (sorry but i HATE garlic)
they were loud, drunk and stupid, they didn’t pay attention to the game except when the cards were scoring
then when i asked a question about a player they didn’t even know the answer and were rude about it
on top of everything they were late and i cannot stand people not being at a game for the whole game especially when you are trying to support the visiting team.

I’ve sat next to dodger fans that are better than these people were and i can’t stand dodger fans

you can not keep bumping your head against reality and saying it is not there.

When are the Padres playing the Yankees at PETCO?

If the Yanks and Friars are going to play at PETCO,let’s give Yankee fans a taste of their own medicine! Let’s all attack a Yankee fan! And yes, even Dodger fans hate the Yankees, too! So do the Angels fans!

I know you're not being literal

But let’s make it perfectly clear that we don’t advocate violence against other teams fans.

by Dex on Jun 5, 2008 10:35 AM PDT up reply actions

I'm not down with violence-

I’m a straight-up pacifist but a few weeks ago some meathead in a Dodger hat tried to knock my Pads hat off at some HxCx fest I was at and I commenced to beating the hell out of him. Good times.
