Smells Like Padres in Here - Friday Edition
And just like that, we're back in last place. Good. I feel more comfortable down here. Now let's get serious about those 100 losses.
Bud really liked the new stadium in NY. No word on how he felt about the sweep.
Giles and Kouz will both be visiting the doctor.
Bell had some knots in his arm.
They NYT profiles SDSU pitcher Stephen Strasburg.
The oldest living major leaguer turns 100 today.
The Pads are back home and Maddux takes on Eddie Bonine as Detroit comes to town. This should be exactly like the time we played them in the '84 World Series and got smoked. Only less exciting. The loss will begin at 7:05pm PDT.

More good news....
Joel Zumaya will be back in a Tiger uniform tonight.
From all reports, Zumaya looks like his old, electrifying self. If that’s really the case, the Tigers will have one of the most intimidating late-inning weapons in the game.
by Drama on Jun 20, 2008 7:16 AM PDT 0 recs
I just saw that. Zumaya + 2nd start for 10.13 ERA pitcher + Padres = bad.

Maddux won’t be exciting and has no chance?

Ha-ha!
Perfect weather in SD today. Might even wear shorts and sandals to the game tonight.
I watched all 22 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

Of course shorts are fine in Chicago
It’s because its humid as f* (I think that’s why it’s raining). But here we got a nice little 36% humidity going and sporting a comfortable 80 degrees on the coast.
So, to summarize: Ha-ha!

It'd be cool to see Strasburg play for the Olympic team
Too bad NBC NEVER shows baseball in Olympics. I never understood how one of the nations most popular sports (at least in comparison to, uh, let’s saying rowing or weightlifting or wrestling or some other Olympics only event) never gets any sort of coverage (not even highlights? C’MON!) during the Olympics.

Kouz on the block?
Scott Miller from CBS Sportsline says he expects Kouz to be traded this summer to open third base for The Savior.
San Diego third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff is expected to be traded this summer to open the position for prospect Chase Headley, who was recalled from Triple-A Portland this week. The Padres don’t believe Headley, who has worked hard in left field this spring and early summer, can adequately cover the large outfield in Petco Park, a source with knowledge of the Padres’ thinking says. He couldn’t be much worse than Paul McAnulty, whose latest failures helped cost Jake Peavy in Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

ehhh
i don’t think they would have risked Headley’s bat by making him change things only to have him where he originally started
it would be one thing if Kouzmanoff wasn’t performing but he obviously is… I think making the switch with Headley its obvious they want to develop both players and have both as an offensive threat
otherwise i think they would have traded Kouzmanoff in the offseason
but on the otherhand… you never know…
Trust me, death is the best argument for moisturizer.

But I don’t expect a trade, just a hunch.

Who is Scott Miller?
And why should I care about what he thinks?
I could see Kouz being trading, but it seems like a better option for the offseason when you might have a better idea of who might be your left fielder. If you can replace Kouzmanoff’s production in the lineup - and so far the Scott Hairston/Paul McAnulty (Scul Hairulty or Pott McArston?) platoon has not done that - with a free agent or something then a trade makes sense. Ditching someone as cheap and (somewhat) productive as Kouz makes no sense whatsoever (unless you get a legit SS or CF back).

If you could please provide me with a list of writers/commentators/analysts that you approve of, I would greatly appreciate it. This way I will only post links to the ones you find worthy of caring about their opinions. Thank you for your cooperation and I look forward to seeing your list.

You may post and read whoever you like
The problem with the internet is that there are lots of people with opinions and unless they have some sort of logic or critical thinking behind their posts, I don’t care what they think. I think you took this too personal. It’s this Scott Miller guy (which as far I can tell is making stuff up) who should be upset with me.
We make up stuff all the time here and nobody goes around quoting it as fact. Geez, I am qualified to be “a source with knowledge of the Padres’ thinking”. There should be people out there quoting my bull as fact.

I'm not taking it personally.
If you don’t care what he writes…or what his opinion is….don’t reply to it.
Or maybe this would have been the appropriate response:
I could see Kouz being trading, but it seems like a better option for the offseason when you might have a better idea of who might be your left fielder. If you can replace Kouzmanoff’s production in the lineup – and so far the Scott Hairston/Paul McAnulty (Scul Hairulty or Pott McArston?) platoon has not done that – with a free agent or something then a trade makes sense. Instead we get the Wonkocized version which has to include:
Who is Scott Miller? And why should I care about what he thinks?

Can someone tell me where exactly I can find a Stone Brew at Petco? It’s been a long time since I’ve been there, and I can’t remember if I have to hunt for good beer.
SammyG, I’m looking in your direction…

Go up the stairs at the front gate
stick to the right side. Make an immediate right when you get to the top. There is a cart there. Looks for the black tap handle.

*look
Also, there is a bar immediately to the left when you get to the top of those same stairs. There are restrooms and an escalator leading up toward Toyota Terrace. Go past the restrooms in that little hallway to find the bar back there, again, look for the black tap handle. :)
