Smells Like Padres in Here - Monday Edition

So close to third place, yet so far away.  (Hey, it's June 2nd.  Headley any minute now?)

Jake threw before the game and felt good.

Whenever I'm feeling down, I look for something that makes fun of the Dodgers.  Mission accomplished.

Baek moves into the rotation and takes on Carlos Zambrano tonight as the Cubs arrive for four games.  The Cubs are the best team in baseball.  We are not.  Game time is 7:05pm PDT.

Chase

In my mind he’s already there. I think the P-Mac experiment is now over.

P-Keg

After what happened with him on Friday night…and the fact that he got his ass chewed by both Mad Dog and Harry…plus the rumors that he “shrugged off” his manager...why in the hell was he rewarded with a start yesterday? Wouldn’t you have let him rot on the bench for the next week?

by Drama on Jun 2, 2008 8:08 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes, I would have

But I’m not Bud Black. I don’t have a subscription to US Weekly.

P-Keg

If I never saw him again I would be a happy man.

the shrug

wasnt really anything big
it was more of a i-dont-wanna-talk-about-it kind of shrug cuz he was prolly pissed off at himself too

I'm very excited

about seeing Baek start tonite. He looked pretty sharp in his inning on Friday night. Chase will probably be here before the Mets series, I imagine.

I can't wait for Chase Headley

I hear he’s 7 feet tall. And that he consume pitchers with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his butt.

by Dex on Jun 2, 2008 8:11 AM PDT   0 recs

He's "The Savior".

He can do anything.

by Drama on Jun 2, 2008 8:30 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Brilliant idea.

Since they can’t run that Maddux commercial with Jim Edmonds….they could replace it with one featuring Chase as Ren McCormack.

“Hey, I like that hat, man. They sell men’s clothes where you got that?”

by Drama on Jun 2, 2008 10:02 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

I am totally thinking of Chase as Ren. He gets to San Diego and is all like “What’s wrong with you people?” And then he goes and smokes and drinks in a warehouse while doing gymnastics.

That’s exactly how I’m picturing him.

KT is not ready to concede.

KT is still holding out hope on 2008.

“If [Arizona and the Dodgers] were continuing to play well, then it would be different. But San Francisco just swept Arizona. It’s such a volatile division, I don’t think you can concede. I think we haven’t seen enough consistency in the division throughout to say we have no shot.”

Last night hurt

Good teams are able to win games like that. Adrian Gonzalez plays well under pressure. Sadly, Trevor has struggled when it matters most. I saw Headley make a real nice catch in Portland on Friday. A catch that McAnulty might not have made. Hensley and Gonzalez pitched nine shutout innings on Friday as well. Save us Portland!

by The Kipper on Jun 2, 2008 9:48 AM PDT   0 recs

saw that game on DirecTV myself

Agree with everything you said. Hensley is at least ready for bullpen duty, he still needs to build up more stamina to start. He had incredible movement on his pitches. And yeah, Headley should be playing in the bigs, but let’s keep playing accounting/arbitration/service time games Towers, because that is much more important than trying to field the best team. It’s funny how the media keeps reporting on “Pryor’s season-ending surgery.” His season started or even existed?

Unraveling

Here’s Geoff Young’s take on Trevor and yesterday’s game.

On a related note, I heard Trevor’s house got TP’ed recently.

The Savior

This is a pretty good read from John Canzano in yesterday’s Oregonian.

Towers said he doesn’t want to promote Headley and have him viewed as some kind of savior. It’s absurd for an operation that wastes millions every year to let its on-field product suffer under the guise that its second-round pick in 2005 couldn’t psychologically handle a promotion to a struggling team.

I don't understand

why you would need to make a plea for Adrian. Who else would be our lone all star?

by jbox on Jun 2, 2008 6:21 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

a plea to vote him in

not just selected in by the manager

you can not keep bumping your head against reality and saying it is not there.

by C8LIN B on Jun 2, 2008 10:43 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Exactly.

He should be starting and he won’t.

by Drama on Jun 3, 2008 6:31 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Make fun of the Dodgers if you like....

...but they just lost 6 of 7 and they are STILL 5 game in front of the Pads.

Now, that is depressing.

by XSD on Jun 2, 2008 1:13 PM PDT   0 recs

I dunno.

I can try to suppress it, but when the words “Dodgers lose 6 of 7” are strung together, a smile just starts forming.

Exactly, right?

Everything else just fades away…
