I didn't know until a few minutes ago, but apparently our short season A ball team started play yesterday with a 6-5 loss to Boise. I took a peak at the roster and tried to see if there was anyone of note on it. It is mostly a mix of 2007 and 2008 draftees with some international players (mainly Dominican) mixed in. 1st round pick Logan Forsythe is on the team as is 3rd round pick Sawyer Carroll. That may get some of the draftniks out there excited, but the most interesting name is someone who was not drafted and not an international signing. Cooper Brannan, 23 year old RHP. For those that don't remember, Cooper Brannan is an Iraq war veteran who was injured in combat and was signed by the Padres last year . Its a cool story and it's nice to see that the Padres thought enough of him to promote him to the Eugene squad.
