He would be the anti-Garvey on the retired numbers list -- all of his best years were spent carrying our weak expansion team. How about Nate Colbert's American journey? Come on, Colbert nation!

17
putting these numbers in context:
-17 foot walls
-old Spalding baseballs
-pitching around Colbert to get to guys like Dave Campbell and Ed Spezio
-coffee, cigarettes, and amphetamines were the only performance enhancing substances around.
Good night folks, you’ve been great.

Colbert was the 1st Padre to wear 17. Gene Richards wore 17 during that great '78 season...
Ed Giovanola wore 17 during the ‘98 N.L. championship year, and Jay Payton wore 17 when the Friars moved to PETCO in 2004!

Why no?
Just curious as to the reasons that folks might’ve voted no. As Billy Almon pointed out above, his numbers are actually ridiculously good when you consider the circumstances of his yrs with the Padres.
