Open Thread: 6/17, Padres vs. Yankees
San Diego Padres @ New York Yankees
The San Diego Padres challenge the New York Yankees in Yankees Stadium for the last time. I remember the last exhibition Spring Training game of the year in '98 when the Yankees played the Padres in Qualcomm Stadium. I sat in right field with a friend who was a Yankees fan. The score was tied 4-4 and was called due to rain and hail. We talked about how these two teams would meet again in the World Series.
I didn't go to any of the World Series games back then because I couldn't get tickets, but I watched as Tony Gwynn and Greg Vaughn tore into David Wells and started celebrating early by starting cars on fire. It wasn't meant to be, we got swept. Tonight we get one last chance to take a series, hell a even a game from them on their turf. If not we steal something or burn it to the ground. One way or another we are going to get even!
Chase Headley is in Left Field. I guess all that talk of him being DH was nonsense, just like everything else we've been told about him. We've been bamboozled!
Go Padres!! Beat the Yankees!
[Note by jbox, 06/17/08 4:08 PM PDT ] Kooz is out with Lower Back Stiffness that appeared during batting practice. When Stansberry was told he got the start he experienced Lower Front Stiffness.
Gerut, CF
Gonzalez E, 3B
Giles, RF
Gonzalez A, 1B
Clark, DH
Headley, LF
Greene, SS
Barrett, C
Stansberry, 2B

The Savior batting 6th

Not the first
time they’ve played since the WS. Most notably, Peavy debuted against them in 2002 I think.

They played there in 2005
took 2 of 3 I believe. Sorry to be a bummer.

If
by “took 2 of 3” you mean the Yankees won the series, then you are correct. We are 2-4 vs the Yankees since the 1998 WS (1-2 at the Q, 1-2 at the decrepit old Stadium that Ruth supposedly built with his teeth).
I watched all 22 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

David Cone and Michael Kay
Kay sounds like a total Homer, but not as bad as the guys here.
I have heard Yankee games with Paul ONeil and Ken Singleton who seem very good.

according to gameday
he has a few outside of the zone called strikes.
