Chase Headley has been called up

 THE SAVIOR IS HERE!!!

The Padres will have to make a roster to accommodate Headley on the 25-man roster and it will likely be an outfielder.

I bet they send down Gerut just to blow our minds.

According to Corey Brock, he'll be playing Sunday. Maybe we'll be able to catch a glimpse of him in a 2008 uniform and swoon.

[Note by Dex, 06/14/08 6:48 PM EDT ] Corey Brock says that it's not certain he'll be with the club tomorrow. The official join date could be as late as Tuesday in New York.

TOWERS!!! WHY DO YOU TOY WITH US YOU SON OF A MOTHERLESS GOAT!!!

Third Base

all that outfield practice and he’ll be playing third base:

General Manager Kevin Towers would not confirm that Headley will be activated today, but allowed that the switch-hitting rookie was not in the Portland Beavers lineup for last night’s game at Fresno and is “on his way” to Cleveland. If thrown into action today, Headley would give third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff only his second day off this season or right fielder Brian Giles a chance to rest a sore shoulder.

Oh well.

We do need a backup for 3B since we’d have to shoot ourselves in the foot to use TC in the field.

not smart

Kouzmanoff has been slumping until yesterday and had a great night… so lets give him the day off against more left handed pitching

did someone not get the memo that Kevin Kouzmanoff hits best off of lhp and that if a guy is slumping you sit him but when he starts hitting you don’t

also it’s not very nice to say “headley you’re gonna be an outfielder now work your butt off to become one… oh hi chase go to third”

Trust me, death is the best argument for moisturizer.

Not very nice?

I think it’s plenty nice to give a player the opportunity to develop at more positions on the field. The last thing we need is another guy who only plays one position.

Kooz had a good night, but he also had a very long one.

i have issues with shifting people

when you are trying to develop them in a new position

That's cool.

But Kooz has only had two days off and it shows, with the exception of last night…

I don’t think we’ll ever know if it was lazy pitching last night after a long wait, or Kooz actually snapping out of it.

true

i just feel like black ends up giving guys days off when they don’t need it
and with him hitting lhp the way he does i’d hate to see it screw him up
at least its still left handed pitching tomorrow too

I like the flexibility

Before Headley’s here, our only other option is Egon at 3B and Schnozzberry to take over for him at 2nd.

At least this way, if Kooz does or does not need a day off, there’s options. Buddy’s hands are tied with the mediocre/inflexible/depleted bench. :(

schnozzberry! that's a good one

i think that is in willy wonka right? the good one, with Gene Wilder?

Not very nice?

You know how excited the kid is to be in Cleveland? He’d probably spell one of the Pad Squad if he was asked too. He had to be feeling awesome touching down in Ohio.
GOOD LUCK CHASE, now go bat .350

they talk about giving him pressure

then shifting him around
i just get annoyed at them developing him in a position to shove him in another right away

I just realized

Cleveland probably doesn’t have enough palm trees to give Chase a proper welcome.
