The San Diego Padres are Patriots

Bill O'Reilly has a segment on his show every night called Pinheads and Patriots.  Last night he complimented the San Diego Padres for their support of the military.

Pinheads & Patriots

Both the Boston Red Sox and the San Diego Padres are providing free seats for our military people. Also, the Padres have a special camouflage uniform honoring our troops in the field.

For these gestures, the organizations in Boston and San Diego earn the patriot label.

As most of you know, every Sunday home game, the Padres host Marine Recruits from MCRD and wear Camouflage jerseys.  They also do countless other events in support of all branches of the military.  Before yesterday's game, which was the Army's birthday, ten young people joined the Army and took the oath on the field.

Wait

I’m confused. How come we’re now patriots, when just last year we were subjecting children to the horrors of “Teh Gays!!!1”

Bill O’Reilly, still a pandering jackass.

And here was my first ever fanshot on GLB about this last year.

National coverage

is national coverage. Free publicity. We get excited when we’re on the four-letter for more than 30 seconds, what’s wrong with this?

And if it sells more $9 beers to people I don’t necessarily agree with in the voting booth, I’m for it.

But isn't it comforting to know

that some O’Reilly-ites might now be more inclined to go shell it out.
Now that “the gays” aren’t running amok, what with all the military presence and all.

$9 beer is so Euro

this is AMERICA!, where the suds run freely out of the back of giant SUV’s in the parking lots listening to John Cougar Melancamp.

Not when InBev buys Budweiser

Hopefully they will discontinue 3.2 beer. I can’t imagine that Euros make near beer.

I'm not sure those people can use the internets.

Telephones though, they got those figured. Pick up phone, dial radiostation/tv show, wait, yell, hang up.

I watched all 23 innings and all I got was this lousy signature.

are there really

a lot of tv shows that still take phone calls?

Or are you just watching Larry King?

by thenerdhater on Jun 13, 2008 2:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Doesn't O'Reilly take phone calls?

Whatever, “conservatives” like to talk on non-internet-based-mass-media outlets. That should cover any issues.

This just in....

R Kelly decided to wear a Padres jersey to the reading of his verdict.

It sucks that we're discussing O'Reilly

on the day that a pretty good guy, Tim Russert, passes away.

He was

I always appreciated his enthusiasm because it seemed genuine, when it seemed so manufactured for a lot of the other talking heads.

Please don't ever put the Padres and Red Sox

in the same catagory.

I LOVE O'REILLY

OK….not really. But when you get to be as rich as he his, I guess you opinion matters…or something.

But seriously, back to the original point of the thread, I think it’s cool what the Padres do for the troops. War or no war, it’s a classy move to let the soldiers have a day at the park before they go over to freaking Iraq. Baseball in Iraq?? Not so much. Good for the Pads for being a cut above.

Side note: Those camo jerseys (ugly as they are) seem to be winning. We should think about doing those some more. And it’s way more manly than using a pink bat when Mother’s Day is over. Admit it, a lot of guys stroked the ball real well around the league with those pink bats. They so wanted to use them again…but didn’t. And rightly so.

Still waiting for "Baseball Today" to give the Padres some love.

Oooh awesome

The self righteous, self proclaimed anointer of what is and isn’t “patriotic”.
